How Much Co2 Do Electric Cars Produce

We have all seen advertisements on television claiming that electric cars are battery powered, hence are considered Zero Emission. This is an ingenious strategy major companies follow to sell their products to the large scale public.

Not only is it entirely wrong, it is also quite possible that electric cars are worse than gasoline powered cars when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions on the long run.

In fact, the widely used term Zero Emission is misleading that its not a surprise so many companies manage to get away using it.

Everything aside, the main focus of the hour is How much CO2 do Electric Cars produce?

The answer to this question is that electric cars do produce a significant amount of CO2 and according to research conducted by a Swedish Environment Institute, the most CO2 emitted at one time in the life of an electric car is 17.5 tons and this is only to manufacture the battery of the car.

So lets take a look at how much CO2 electric cars produce during their life span and Ill explain a few points to help minimize these emissions in the long run.

How Are Electric Car Batteries Disposed Of

In the traditional sense, car batteries which are the typical lead-acid batteries are recycled within the U.S. This process is easy as its a composition of various fossil fuels and can ultimately be reused and recycled.

  • The case with electric car batteries is not the same, electric car batteries are made from Lithium-ion and a composition of chemicals that deem them unfit to be recycled.
  • Lithiumion batteries for electric cars are either burned or dumped in a landfill at the end of their life and this process definitely does not make electric cars greener for the environment.

What we have to take into consideration is that if there is no proper battery disposal technique in place were going to end up having more carbon emissions than we can handle. Dumping batteries in a landfill is not only bad for the environment but even bad for us. When these chemicals seep through the ground and enter our water supply, who knows whats to come.

Another great concept would be to find a way to have these Lithium-ion batteries recycled or given a second life. This will help cut down the number of batteries already in circulation and until we can figure out a permanent and Eco-friendly solution to the disposal of batteries we have to do the best with what we can and not damage the environment any more than we already have.

Dodge Answers The Call For Electric Vehicles

Per Car and Driver, the new EV will be on the market by 2024. This gives them plenty of time to work out marketing kinks before the 2035 California deadline. After all, according to the California Auto Outlook, Californians buy about two million new vehicles annually, and more than 30 million vehicles are registered there in an average year. It would be an expensive mistake for Dodge to disregard the California market.

Dodge Could Make A Faster Model S Plaid

Dodge revealed that its new SRT Banshee powertrain has an 800-volt capacity. This is rare among current EVs. It means this eMuscle car would be able to draw power from its battery faster than most EVs, and dump all that power into its motors. Even the Tesla Model S Plaid is still limited by its 400-volt system. This is a step in the right direction.

The Tesla Model S Plaid is also limited by having just three electric motors. The Rivian R1T has proven a market for quad-motor drive. MotorTrend revealed that when this 7,000-pound truck torque-vectors its way through a curve, it corners more like a sports sedan than a pickup. If Dodge pioneers the first 800-volt quad-motor system, it could dominate the market. But Dodge does not have to stop there.

The Tesla Model S Plaid weighs a beefy 4,766 pounds. This makes even the traditional Chargerwith a weight of 3,900-4,500 poundslook light. Much of the Model Ss weight is due to its Lithium Ion battery pack. If Dodge was serious about performance, it could lighten the Charger Daytona SRTs battery, thus reducing its range. A gasoline-powered range extender, like Ram is developing for its electric truck, could make up the difference.

Ford Will Launch 7 Evs In Europe Including A Full

Ford plans a full-electric version of its best-selling European passenger car, the Puma crossover.

Ford Motor is launching seven full-electric vehicles in Europe including a battery-electric version of the Puma small crossover, its best-selling passenger car in the region.

The three new full-electric passenger cars and four new electric vans will be launched by 2024 and will all be built in Europe, Ford said in a statement on Monday.

DAILY NEWSLETTER: Sign up and get the top news of the day in Europe every business weekday.

The first EV will be a midsize crossover that will go into production at Ford’s factory in Cologne, Germany, this year. The crossover will use Volkswagen Group’s MEB electric platform that underpins the VW ID4, among other VW Group models.

Ford had already said it would build a new EV in Cologne, but this is the first mention of the model’s body style.

The electric crossover will have a 500 km driving range on a single charge. Its name will be revealed later in 2022, with production commencing in 2023, Ford said.

The seven new battery-electric vehicle launches will bring the number of full-electric cars sold by Ford in Europe to nine.

A second vehicle, which Ford said was a “sports crossover,” will also be built at Cologne starting in 2024. The vehicle is also expected to be based on the MEB platform.

The electric sports crossover means that EV production at the Cologne factory will increase to 1.2 million vehicles over a six-year timeframe.

Recharging Your Cars Battery: Cause Of Co2 Emissions Or A Solution

At the moment, recharging your electric car will cause more CO2 emissions than act as a solution to the current problem. The amount of CO2 that is released into the environment every time you charge your cars battery varies significantly depending on the actual source of the current and how it was produced.

  • A power-grid normally runs on fossil fuels and unless youre recharging your battery from a sustainable green energy source, youre doing way more damage to the environment than a gasoline powered car.

According the a report authored by Brandon Schottle and Michael Sivak, an electric car that is recharged by a coal-powered electricity plant will produce as much CO2 as a 29 miles per gallon gasoline car.

  • In America, solar, wind and geothermal energy perform far better than coal and other fossil fuels but unfortunately nearly 64% of the electricity produced in America is from fossil fuels and natural gas.
  • During the lifetime of your cars battery, you would have released more CO2 without realizing it than those pesky gasoline cars, thus contributing more to global warming.
  • Until the entire power grid gets an upgrade and our electricity is generated in an environmentally friendly way, electric cars will be far from being considered zero emission vehicles.

    Driving Without A Plate Number

National law specifies the penalties for driving without a license plate. The consequences will vary depending on the state where you are caught.

In all states, your car needs a rear plate. In some, it is also necessary to have the plate on the front. Nonetheless, there are exceptions when you can drive even without it. For instance, such is acceptable when you are driving a new car.

The penalties may vary, which include a verbal warning from the arresting officer. You might pay a fine that can range from $100 to $500, depending on the state. There are situations when you still have to go to the police station to show that you already have the plate installed after settling the fine.

Dodge Can Do Better Than An Electric Hellcat

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Is an Electric Muscle Car

Electric cars and traditional internal combustion cars are very different vehicles with different strengths. For this reason, it holds electric cars back when automakers use internal combustion cars as benchmarks and try to set new EVs up as direct competitors. One obvious example is the way Dodge is setting its new SRT Banshee powertrain up as its Hellcat replacement. But multiple electric cars already produce Hellcat levels of power. Automakers such as Dodge will need to create something all new.

    • The executive expects that would make the company the second-largest U.S.-based producer of EVs, behind Tesla.
    • It’s unclear if 600,000 would place it second behind Tesla. General Motors plans to sell 1 million electric vehicles globally by 2025.

plans to increase its production capacity of electric vehicles to 600,000 units globally by 2023, which CEO Jim Farley expects would make the company the second-largest U.S.-based producer of EVs, behind Tesla.

Farley said the increase would double the number of EVs the company had initially expected to produce over the next 24 months, according to a report Thursday from Automotive News. That production is expected to be spread across Ford’s first three new EVs: the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and E-Transit. It would come before production is expected to begin at a newly announced EV assembly plant in Tennessee, according to the Detroit-based publication.

Dodge Jeep And Chrysler Electric Vehicles

Chrysler shows it has a slew of electric vehicles in the pipeline, including a Chevy Volt competitor, and theyre coming to a road near you soon.

Chrysler is in the electric-vehicle game, breaking a self-imposed silence with a first lookand driveof a trio of electric vehicles, one of which it says will be on the road in 2010, with more to come.

The initial prototypes include the Dodge EV, which is a fully electric vehicle based on a Lotus Europa that has been modified structurally for the technology . The two-seater has a range of 150 to 200 miles on electricity alone and a claimed 0-to-60-mph time of less than five seconds, but has a top speed of only 100 mph at this point, with 120 expected when it goes into production. Recharging takes eight hours when plugged into a 110-volt household outlet, or half the time with 220 volts.

The other two prototypes are existing Chrysler vehicles that have been electrified and are what the industry calls extended-range electric vehicles in that they can go 40 miles on electricity but have small gasoline engines to extend that range to about 400 miles, à la Chevrolet Volt. One is a Jeep Wrangler, with full off-road capability, a 268-hp motor, and a gas tank to hold the 10 gallons of gasoline it needs for the extended range. The other concept is a Chrysler Town & Country with a two-cylinder gas engine and 255-hp motor, with a nine-gallon tank and the battery pack nestled into the bins of the Stow Go system.
