What Is Car Ownership Cost

While buying a car, after finalising the budget and the desired car, the next important step is to calculate the actual cost of ownership of the vehicle. The purchase price of a car isnt the real cost of owning it as in the long run, there will be a number of additional costs and expenses that the owner will have to probably incur. For example, if you are planning to purchase a car by investing Rs.5 lakh, this is not the only expense that you have to make for the car. In the coming 5 to 10 years, several other expenses including the registration tax, road tax, car insurance premium, car loan EMIs , monthly fuel expenses, car maintenance and servicing cost will get added to the list.

However, it is not possible to calculate the cost of ownership of a vehicle accurately as most of the expenses are not pre-fixed. Anyway, it is not necessary to have an accurate figure, a rough estimate of the additional expenses will be sufficient to decide the real cost of ownership. In order to get a rough estimate of the real ownership cost, calculate all the above-mentioned costs and charges.

The Conclusion For This Little Case Study

In 2020, Ford and Toyota sold over two million cars each, meaning theyd have to make almost 6,000 cars per day. And 2020 was considered a slow year in terms of new car purchases. The only power sources that can meet the amount of production needed are fossil fuels and coal. So for the foreseeable future, cars will always be built by dirty means, even if the vehicles produced are clean.

  • Size: The size and type of vehicle you drive will greatly impact the cost to paint it. Painting the body of a large SUV will cost more than painting that of a smaller coupe.
  • Paint color: Not all paint is created equal the color and quality of the paint will range in cost. Painting your car a basic color such as white or black will be cheaper than a less common color.
  • Paint type: The price range for one coat of synthetic enamel paint is anywhere from $300 to $700 for an average-sized sedan, according to J.D. Power. High-quality paint, on the other hand, may cost several thousand dollars.
  • Paint finish: Paint finish refers to the amount of shine that the paint has. Depending on your style, prices vary for matte, gloss or semi-gloss finishes. Paint finish costs may also include adding a coat of wax or seal your cars paint job. The cost of a regular wax is about $100 to $200. A specialized ceramic coating will be more expensive.
  • Caliber of body shop: Through research you may come across very inexpensive paint jobs, but beware: Price and quality of work go hand in hand when it comes to getting your car painted. If you opt for a bargain body shop, the work quality is not likely to include the same level of care and attention.

It’s Not About How Much More It Would Cost To Make A Structurally Stable Car It’s About What Can We Sell And How Much Can We Make On It That Is The Mentality That Is Employed

BHPian autohead115 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Ok, hear me out. I am torn between trying to choose a well put together car from Hyundai or going with Tatas that have noisy engines and jerky AMTs, or VWs that still don’t feel as polished or nice as a Kia/Hyundai so I just wanted to understand the economics of using less steel/sheet-metal. Clearly our govt. is to blame for exorbitant taxes and no safety norms.

However, I wonder one thing, how much more would it cost to Hyundai or Maruti etc to make their car get at least 4 or 5 stars , I mean if Tata can do it with small cars as well , why can’t Hyundai? If cars would cost 50K more to do so, I don’t see why not, but does it cost a lot more? It’s not like Hyundai is scared to price boldly, their top-of-the-line Creta is almost 23L OTR Bangalore now, I don’t see people turning away if it costs 50-75K more. Can someone weigh in on this, what are the manufacturers thinking here?

Should You Get Professional Car Paint Job Or Diy

When deciding between professional or DIY painting, consider your purpose for painting do you want a quick cosmetic fix before selling the vehicle, or are you working on a restoration passion project? A DIY paint fix may add some value to a dinged-up car, but it wont ultimately improve it.

While its possible to paint your own vehicle, it involves patience, skill and a range of paints and tools you may need to purchase specifically for the job. The result of your own paint job may not provide the high-quality vehicle facelift you are looking for. Do-it-yourself paint jobs are best suited for older vehicles or all-terrain vehicles that frequently pick up knocks and scratches.

For people looking to restore a family vehicle or collectors car to its original condition, its usually a better idea to employ the services of an auto repair shop where professionals apply up to 24 even coats of paint for a high-gloss, durable finish.

Components: The manufacturer needs components and usually these are shipped from several different manufacturers.

Packaging cost: When you are shipping tons and tons of components the packaging cost can up to be a significant cost we need to keep in the math calculation.

Logistic costs: This would be costs like transport, warehouse costs etc, anything that happens in between the supplier to the car factory.

Internal costs: Lastly is the expenses in-house, such as operations, salary, electricity, and other factory costs.

These are the costs you would add up to get the cost to get the car manufactured at the car factory.

However, what these numbers are is different for each and every car manufacturer. If you are going to take the cost from factory to your doorstep then there are a lot of other cots that you must consider such as marketing, loans, what tools they use, quality of parts, where the car is made, where the parts are stored, etc.

The only way we can calculate the manufacturing cost of a car is to take the cost of the car at the dealership and divide it in half.

This is the closest you will get to find the manufacturing cost of your car since most cars are sold for the dobbel of the manufacturing cost. Keep in mind that the manufacturing cost does not take in count the other expenses I mentioned earlier such as marketing and the percentage will vary between each car as well.
