Lots of cardboard cars are made from square boxes, but I wanted to show that with a little creativity you can turn a long box into a great cardboard car, plus the bonus is this is made with much stronger cardboard and it is foldable too. Yes it take a little planning, however, once you have the basics you can make any vehicles like our fabulous cardboard tractor that folds for storage.
Start by measuring your box I have found that most of the childrens bike boxes were about 140cm folded, which gives you in excess of 280cm to play with.
Then cut off the top and the bottom of the box the main reason for this is there are really large staples in the box, and this removes them and gives you a nice rectangle to work with. Also, cut one of the ends so you end up with a long rectangle of cardboard.
Plan out your car or just use my plan and start drawing it out on the cardboard.
The cut out. Make sure your blade is sharp, it is much easier and safer to cut the cardboard with a sharp knife.
A toop tip for making sure both sides of your car are the siame is to take the cut out from the first side and turn it over and use it as a template.
Look it is starting to look like a car!
Diy Kids Car For Under $10
Nothing like a creative challenge to get my brain working and what could be more fun than following up Immys beloved cardboard box play kitchen with the next DIY Kids project a car.
Same rules apply. Only $10 and whatever I can find in my recycling bin and around the house to complete the challenge. Heres how I did
1. Find three boxes that are the same size . The middle box should be large enough for your child to sit in. From left to right, tape the first box completely shut, tape the bottom only of the second box and the top only of the third. I raided the garage for three book boxes left over from our last move.
2. As for the kitchen challenge, I decided to use self adhesive book covering with the car. I think it adds some additional strength to the cardboard and is less messy than paint. I found some on special at Kmart for $1.99 per roll so I grabbed three. Cover the tops of boxes 1 and 3 with the book covering.
3. Cover each of the long sides with the book covering, this effectively tapes the three boxes together.
4. Cover either end of the car with book covering. Bend in or cut off the remaining box flaps to the left of the middle box. The flap remaining will become the windscreen of the car.
8. Headlights: Cut circles from white craft foam and attach with craft glue. You may also like to make brake lights from red craft foam for the back of the car.

Painting Mario Kart Cars
Start by painting the sides of the car. These are typically more vibrant colors, so by starting with the sides, you are able to not worry about getting any over spray onto where your white side stripes will be on the front of the car. Ignore the fact that the front of the car is already painted in this photo. I took it after I had painted both sections!
Next, tape off where you want the white stripes to be on the front of the car and spray paint them white. Once the white paint has dried, lightly tape over the white and paint the middle section the color that you will want it to be for your character.
Paint all of your side angle pieces white, the tires black, and the tire rims yellow.

Why Does The Activator Rail Not Work
The Activator rail is a rail that should have pushed the train from top to bottom. However, it doesnt work, leading to problems with maintaining the correct train speed.
There are two possible reasons why this happens:
1. The power unit is not receiving power.

How To Make A Large Cardboard Car
First, you’ll need to gather your fabrication tools and put on your nanny do-it-yourselfers! You will need :
- A large cardboard box
The first step which will be the most important step! : find a large box rectangular! You’ll need to find a box that the child can fit into, usually moving boxes will do the trick. If you can recycle a box would be ideal!
First, start by seal the bottom of the box with adhesive tape. Then close the top, leaving a short flap on the outside. The latter will be the rear of the car.
Once the box is well taped, divide the length of the top of the latter in three equal parts. Then remove the last part, cut the middle part on the sides only and fold it to make the windshield. Fold the two flaps in half and glue them together.
Make way for the color of the car! Have fun painting the car with your child and personalize it according to your child’s preferences!
Use acrylic paint or spray paint, we advise you to place the box on newspaper or an old tablecloth to avoid stains. Do not hesitate to add a second coat for a cleaner look. Let it dry well.
Once the box is dry, cut out the doors Below the windshield, cut vertically and fold to facilitate the opening and closing of the door. Then glue white sheets that will act as door windows, and front and rear windshields.
Add little details!
And that’s it! You are the nanny of the year with cardboard, paint and a cutter! The kids will be amazed to have a babysitter as cool as you are!

Tutorial How To Make A Cardboard Car For Kids Imaginary Play
Each family is asked to bring in a large box something big enough for their child to sit down in. Some brought file boxes, some apple boxes, some shipping boxes or boxes from small appliances.
I put posters up on the walls with some ideas to get them started but then encouraged them to be creative, use their imagination, and build the car any way that they want to.
All the ideas below are suggestions, not required steps! Its all about how the child wants their car to look!! If the child gets bored after they put two wheels on, you may let the parent know its OK to choose to move on. But some kid-parent teams really stick with this projects and get truly creative.
Supplies For A Cardboard Box Car
The size of the roadster will depend on the size of box you have available. The instructions in this tutorial are for a long shallow box, but they can be adapted to any box. See ideas for using a square box at the end of the post.
You could use shelf liner in place of fabric for the covering, either self-adhesive or non adhesive.
White glue will work for this project but a glue gun may be more effective in the long run. You’ll want to use a glue gun with care when kids are nearby.

Instructions For Cardboard Box Car
1. Recycled cardboard box
The box we used is a long rectangular shape, but you can adapt the tutorial to any box large enough to allow your toddler or preschooler to sit inside.
- Cut into the box approximately in the middle of the box by making a slit near both outside edges of the box. In our model the hood of the car is longer than the back end or trunk. Leave an outer edge on both sides of at least 2 inches .
- Divide this middle portion of the box approximately in half to form two flaps. In our model, one flap is larger than the other, a larger one to form the seat and a smaller one to form the dashboard.
- Raise one flap up to form the dashboard.
- Bend the other flap down to form the shape of the seat. Tape in place.
Note: To easily bend the cardboard, make a slight impression in the cardboard with the craft knife.
2. Box coverings
Cover the box with fabric or self-adhesive shelf liner. Alternately, kids might like to paint the car or decorate with crayons or markers.
- Cut strips of fabric for the sides. Cut squares or rectangles to fit the front ‘hood’ and back ‘trunk’.
- Glue the fabric covering in place.
3. Windshield and/or dashboard
Use the box flap as a dashboard or cut a windshield from another piece of cardboard as we did.
- To attach a large windshield, trim the dashboard flap to the same height as the bottom part of the windshield frame.
- Tape the windshield securely to the dashboard.

How about gluing the long flaps of the box to the inside and using the other two for the front and back of the car? With colorful pushpins, you can attach the paper plates dipped in black paint to the sides of the box that would function as the wheels. Its time to head for the race.

Have you a wardrobe box? Then cut off the two long flaps and one short flap of the box. Draw a rectangle on the remaining flap and cut it out to make the windshield. Layer the inside of the box with Hello Kitty polka dot paper and paint the outside white. Give it the cherubic kitty effect sticking the eyes, nose, whiskers, and the ravishing hair bow cut out from a cardstock paper. For the wheels, you can always grab the paper plates.

Assembling A Cardboard Mario Kart Car
Cut out the words, Mario Kart out of vinyl and round them slightly with the Silhouette Studio software. You will want two of them for each of the tires. Apply it onto all of the black tires.
Once the words have been applied, glue the yellow rims to the center of all of the tires, using hot glue.
To apply the side supports onto the cars, glue it to the inside of the side of the car. Put more glue on the top of the piece and press down the top of the car on it. Hold it there until the glue dries. To make it even stronger, go along the sides of the spot where the side support and the top meet and add more glue. Make sure you hold it there until the glue is able to dry.
Cut out each of the emblems or the front, using the adhesive vinyl. Because each of my cars were different sizes, the emblems all had to be different sizes as well. Measure each car to know what size you will need your emblems to be.
Glue the tires to the side of the cars, using hot glue. Put the larger tires on the back and the smaller tires on the front.
For the straps, have the person who will be wearing the car hold it up to where they want it and measure how long you want the straps to be. Glue the ribbon under the front of the car and have it crisscross in the back and glue it to the back of the car. This allows the person wearing it to wear them like suspenders.

Making a cardboard car for a school project is a fun and easy way to be creative and learn about science and engineering. All you need is some cardboard, scissors, tape, and a marker. First, cut out two large rectangles from the cardboard. These will be the sides of your car. Next, cut out a smaller rectangle for the front and back of the car. Then, cut out two smaller rectangles for the wheels. To make the wheels, cut a slit in the center of each rectangle and then insert another piece of cardboard to make a circle. Tape the wheels to the sides of the car. Then, use the marker to decorate your car.
