- Perform the clear coat removal process in a garage or any shaded area, ideally when it is not too hot outside to prevent the clear coat remover from drying out. However, avoid working on high humidity days as your car might not dry completely after certain steps.
- Clear coat removing agents can be applied with spray bottles as it is easier to work with them, but you must be extra careful because the excess product can be spritzed all over the surrounding surfaces.
- The buffing clear coat remover can also get rid of the paint, so make sure it is not applied too far away from the problem areas. If needed, remove the car part you are working on so the remover doesnt go to the other surfaces.

What Is The Difference Between Scratch Removers And Polishing Compounds
Differences in the formulation. Scratch and Swirl Remover products, in general, have similar performance characteristics to rubbing and polishing compounds. Scratch and Swirl Removers, however, are formulated, and product instructions are tailored, for repairing light overall finish blemishes or localized repair.
If oxidation and dull finish is the focus then Rubbing and Polishing Compounds are the best to use. If the focus is scratch repair or removal of finish blemishes, then the focus should be Scratch Repair or Scratch and Swirl removing products.
How To Remove Residue And Scuff Marks
Not all scratches are the same. Some scratches are just marks raised above the paint that are left by another object. If the object that rubbed against your car is softer than the cars paint, it will deposit material on the paints surface. That object could be a rubber bumper of the shopping cart, a door of another car, or a wooden post. It can also be tree sap, road tar, glue, goo or various crud.

Stubborn Scratch & Blemish Removal
- After following all steps, if the scratch is not removed, proceed to use a heavier grit and a more aggressive rubbing compound.
- Repeat the previous steps using Turtle Wax Premium Rubbing Compound or Turtle Wax Clean Cut Rubbing Compound.
Note: paste compounds are more aggressive than liquid compounds. On new, darker paint finishes we recommend Turtle Wax Clean Finish Polishing Compound. On older, oxidized paint finishes we recommend cleaning with paste compounds.
