How Long The Battery Survive After This Method

It depends on your current battery condition but the average for the battery to work approximately another 2 or 3 months maximum or may be less than this.

Caution:

  • Lead acid batteries have many design and shapes some batteries has caps that come off the top to maintain the acid levels easily but low maintenance batteries require a bit more work to recondition. A low maintenance battery has its top sealed shut to prevent evaporation but it also prevents easy reconditioning. These batteries can still be reconditioned but you will have to look for the shadow marks on the top plastic that shows the holes into the cells. Simply drill holes in the plastic to get access to the cells then pour in your solution.
  • You can repeat this method on to the same battery 2 to 4 times before the battery is completely resurrected.
  • Always wear goggles and glasses before experimenting this method with your car battery.
  • Dont apply this method when the battery is hot, wait until the battery gets back to a normal temperature.

How To Fix A Dead Car Battery Without Jumper Cables

In due time your car batteries will run dead. Good thing mine run dead in an open parking lot and in broad daylight. There were many vehicles in the area and finding help to jumpstart my car was not going to be a problem until I realized I did not have jumper cables. Allow me to share what we did on how to fix a dead car battery without jumper cables.

Batteries run dead for a lot of reasons:You may have forgotten to turn off your headlights, flashers, interior lights or the radio for the night depleting the charge of your battery. Running the air conditioner when the car is stationary can also cause the battery to die.

Lack of maintenance, age and not starting your car for long periods of time can also cause the battery to die. The voltage regulator or diode bridge in the alternator failing can also be a cause.

When your car suddenly does not start, do some checks before pointing on the battery as the main culprit. Many cars have ignition settings that allow the electrical system to function without starting the engine. Check your headlights. If they are dim, your battery is indeed dead. If your headlights are as bright as it usually is, the problem is something else.

Even with a low battery level, you will get some light from your dashboard and a faint sound from the car stereo. Listen to the sound of your car. If your engine gives off a cranking sound, there is nothing wrong with the battery. If your car does not give off any sound, you better start jumpstarting your car.

Restoring A Car Battery After A Deep Discharge

The battery does not produce electrical energy, but stores it, converted into chemical energy. The voltage is the potential difference between the two terminals of the cell. It should be equal to 2.1 V when fully charged. During charging, positive particles collect at the anode, absorbing electrical energy. As they are discharged, the ions from the anode move to the cathode, giving energy in the form of a pulse to the consumers network.

The conductor is the electrolyte a sulfuric acid solution of standard density. During the discharge period, small crystals of PbSO4 appear on the surface of the plates. But deep discharge leads to formation of large insoluble crystals. This means that the electrolyte is impoverished, becomes weaker and is not able to create the desired energy capacity. The formation of insoluble sludge on the plates makes it difficult to pass current, resistance increases. The battery is dead. Restoration of the battery charge depends on the destruction of the zinc sulfate precipitate.

Reconditioning A Car Battery

How to Restore a Car Battery AGM that Has Been Dead Over 3 Months?

Reconditioning a car battery at home is an easy, inexpensive and eco-friendly way to increase the life of your cars battery. Youll need a few basic tools and household chemicals to begin the process. Careful precautions should be observed to avoid injury and environmental damage. Always wear safety gear when working with car batteries and follow the manufacturers instructions. Batteries that have been disposed of or short-circuited should not be reconditioned.

To begin reconditioning a battery, remove the cap from the battery. The caps can vary from two to six. Make sure you have a suitable container handy so that you can pour off the acid into it. Dont forget to wear protective gear when working with battery acid. Remember, battery acid is very dangerous and should never be handled without the proper safety gear. If you dont have the proper protective gear, the process may not turn out as youd hoped.

To test a reconditioned car battery, use a voltmeter. The reading should be about 12V. If it is lower than that, try charging it for another half-day before driving it. A battery with nine to ten volts is safe to use while driving. However, you may have to repeat the process if it doesnt pass the test. If the reconditioning process has failed, you will have to buy a new car battery.

Taking Care Of A Car Battery

Your car battery, just like your engine, needs care, and although it does not require the sophisticated level of care that the engine needs, it is just as important. A dead or a weak battery can be why you are late for an interview or why you miss your flight.

To avoid any damage to your car, here are tips:

  • Use your battery regularly so that it doesn’t run out and put a strain on the alternator when you need its power most.
  • Recharge unused batteries before using them for a long drive around town or country roads to prevent excessive deep cycling of the cells, leading to permanent cell damage from heat buildup while charging an active bank with low voltage.
  • Make sure that all electrical components, including wiring harnesses, fuses/circuit breakers, ground connections, and starter solenoid, are functioning properly. Also, ensure they’re not overheated due to intermittent short circuits or faulty grounding points within circuit boards.

To keep your battery in optimal health:

Change it every few years: A battery has a lifespan make sure you know it so you do not go beyond the recommended number of years.

Check its acid level: Make sure to check the acid level of your battery every six months or as recommended by your mechanic.

Add water to your battery carefully: You should use a funnel or a water bottle so that you can be precise.

Conduct regular load test: This checks to see that the battery is charging properly under all conditions.

Regular Charging Is The Best Dead Car Battery Prevention

When it comes down to it, even with these tricks on hand, your battery will never have the same power it once did. Soon, youll need to replace it completely. Thats why its sometimes better to maintain your battery as best you can.

To keep up maintenance of your battery, regularly check that the charging system within your vehicle is properly functioning. You should also recharge the battery when left idle for long periods of time by either getting an external charger or just by driving around town for at least 30 minutes.

The Nuts & Bolts Of Car Batteries

To understand how to revive a failed battery, you must first understand how a battery works.

While not overly complicated to grasp, the details relating to a batterys operation carries more depth than just providing power to your vehicles electrical systems.

Lead-acid batteries are the most common type of battery found in todays automobiles. Inside these batteries are a series of cells that contain positive and negative plates, that are submerged in sulfuric acid.

There are six such cells in a 12-volt battery. Each cell carries a charge of 2.1 volts, equalling 12.6 volts in total.

Each plate contained within a batterys cell is coated in an active material, with sponge lead being used for negative plates and lead dioxide for positive plates.

A chemical reaction takes place upon a load being put on the battery cells, as these active ingredients contact the sulfuric acid contained within.

The product of this chemical reaction is thereby converted to chemical energy for use by your vehicles starter.
