What Do I Need To Do To Sell My Car

Want To Sell My Car Apparently Need To Buy It First Then Sell It How Do I Do This The Best Way

I Don’t Know How To Sell My Car!

Hi all,

I have a fun pre-baby car . Just bought us a sensible family car and we honestly do not need two. There is no justifiable reason to keep spending money on this car and insurance.

My cars buyout price is almost exactly the same as the online quotes I got from CarMax/Carvana. What Id like to do is just flip it to them for no loss or gain and not pay for it anymore.

BMW is telling me that I have to personally purchase the car from them before I can sell it. I cant have CarMax/Carvana just buy it directly from BMW.

What is the best way to do this?

Should I go get a car loan, buy it, sell it, then pay the loan in full? Will I lose money in fees or interest doing it this way ? Would my credit be impacted negatively by doing that? Would it be impacted positively?

Alternatively, I could get the cash together and do it that way, but that would take a little bit of time and probably require me to pay 2-3 more monthly payments/insurance on the car .

Are there any companies out there that would facilitate this kind of trade for a low fee? ?

Thanks for any advice.

More Tips To Consider

When to Price Your Car Higher

  • Warranty. Youll get more money for your vehicle if its under an extended warranty , provided the warranty is transferable.
  • Regular maintenance. If youve kept up with regular maintenance, including if you recently completed major scheduled maintenance, such as a 60,000-mile service, it adds to the bottom line of the sales price.
  • New tires or brakes. You can add to the sales price if youve purchased a new set of tires or installed new brakes.

When to Price Your Car Lower

  • Quick sale. If you want to sell your car quickly, lowering the price helps you get there faster.
  • Needs maintenance. If the vehicle needs a major scheduled service, new tires, or brakes, that will lower the price.
  • Accident. Whether a fender bender or a major accident, these mishaps will lower your sales price.

I Want To Sell My Car Quickly How Fast Is The Instant Cash Offer Process

The instant cash offer process can typically be completed in less than a week. The process may vary by provider, but here’s how it generally works:

  • Submit information about your car online: The more detailed information you can provide, the better. For example, listing options and add-ons can increase the amount you’ll be offered.

  • Receive an offer: This generally takes only a few minutes to process. If you accept the offer, you move on to the next step.

  • Make an appointment with a dealership: ICO companies work with certified local dealers to complete the sale process. You’ll bring your car to the dealership so they can verify that it’s in the condition you described.

  • Receive your payment: Once the dealer inspects your car and verifies that it qualifies for the value of the offer you received, they’ll complete the purchase.

  • If you were planning to trade the car in while purchasing a new car, that ICO payment could be applied to the sale of the new car instead. If you have an outstanding loan on the car you’re selling, the payment will be sent to the lender.

Do I Need A Lien Release To Sell My Car

You may think your car drives and shines like new, but its value will depend on its actual condition. Its important to be knowledgeable and realistic about the sales price when determining how to sell a car.

Some owners tend to overestimate the value of their car, which can lead to unrealistic expectations. If you ultimately set your asking price too high, youll probably have more trouble selling it.

Get A Negotiable Title From The Seller

It is unwise to rely on a sellers promise to get the title to you. Although Utah law requires a seller to provide a title within 48 hours of the transaction, a common-sense approach is to obtain a title at the time of sale, or wait to pay for the vehicle until the seller can provide the title. Without a negotiable title, you cannot title and register the vehicle in your name. A negotiable title is one that:

    • Belongs to the vehicle being purchased. Check the make, model and compare the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number against the VIN on the car.
    • Has been properly signed off by the seller. If the title is in more than one persons name , both may need to sign. If the title says, John Doe and Jane Doe, both must sign off on the title. If the title lists John Doe or Jane Doe, only one must sign. No notary is needed to sign off on a title.

If a Utah title is lost, the buyer and seller may fill out a Form TC-123, Application for a Duplicate Title. This document, properly completed, can then be used to register the vehicle in the purchasers name.

Also have a properly completed Form TC-891, Odometer Disclosure Statement filled out and signed by the owner and the buyer .

If the title shows a lien holder, verify that the lien has been released.

Once youve found a potential buyer, youll want to schedule a test drive. Let the buyer get a feel for how the car handles. Follow these tips below to create a safe test-drive experience.

    • Screen buyers Thoroughly vet potential buyers before scheduling a test drive. Speak to the person on the phone and ask them screening questions, such as whether or not they have financing lined up. Take questions from them as well to determine if theyre a serious buyer.
    • Safety in numbers and visibility Meet the potential buyer in a populated area. Never go on a test drive alone. Ask a friend to join you. Schedule the test drive during the day.

What Is The Safest Method Of Payment When Selling A Car

What paperwork do i need to sell my car in oregon

Typically, the safest payment method when selling a car is cash. However, if youâre selling on PrivateAuto, you also have the option to receive the payment through our secure PrivateAuto Pay integrated banking system. By receiving your money through our integrated banking system, both buyers and sellers can stay safe while exchanging large sums of money, as they donât have to share their contact or banking information during the car buying process.

    When You Sell Your Car

Getting payment: Cold, hard cash is the easiest way to collect payment for your vehicle. The buyer might request a receipt for the cash. If you provide a bill of sale, this will serve as a receipt. Additionally, if you or the buyer prefers to use a cashier’s check, make sure to follow these safety tips and meet at the buyer’s bank instead.

When vehicles are being sold remotely, you can use an escrow service to facilitate the transaction. The escrow service essentially verifies that the funds are paid and transfers them from the buyer to the seller.

It’s unwise to accept a promise of future payment from a buyer, even if it is someone you know. If the vehicle is wrecked, the new owner’s motivation to pay you back plummets. You are well within your rights to refuse to float loan payments, and in most cases the buyer will understand and quietly back down.

Limiting your liability: What if someone drives away in the vehicle you just sold and gets into an accident? Can you be held responsible? There are two ways to deal with this concern. First, record the odometer reading, and sign the vehicle’s title over to the buyer. Second, in most states, a release-of-liability form can be downloaded from the registry of motor vehicles website. Take Precautions With The Test Drive

If the caller seems legitimate and ready to buy and wants to set up a test drive, pick a safe, central meet-up location in a public place, ideally near a relaxed test drive route. Always plan ahead and ask a friend or family member to join you for the ride.

Meet prospective buyers during the day in a public area . Park the car in a high traffic area where people can see you.

Plan a test drive thats short and sticks to populated areas. Most buyers dont expect an extended test drive. If your buyer wants more time, let the person ask you for it.

Before the drive, dont forget to ask to see the prospective buyers license. Typically, its advisable to accompany the driver on the test drive regardless of what kind of collateral they offer in exchange for driving it. However, due to COVID-19, be sure to agree to health and safety precautions ahead of time. That helps to take the guesswork out of the test drive when it happens.

California requires every buyer to get a smog test and have a smog certification when applying for a title. New Mexico requires an emissions inspection report when purchasing or transferring ownership in Bernalillo County, and Arizona requires the same for vehicles in Tucson and Phoenix.
