Tax Breaks Ev Incentives And Other Factors Affecting Tesla Prices

Unfortunately for Tesla, the federal tax incentives in the US have expired because theyve produced too many vehicles over the threshold limit, but there are still a variety of local incentives that you can get depending upon what state youre in.

Tesla keeps a great log of these incentives on their page here:

Currently, the best incentives are given by California and Vermont , although there are a variety of conditions that must be met in order to qualify for these.

Many other states have incentives in the $1,500 $2,500 range, so if youre purchasing new, its definitely worth taking a look at various incentives that might be available.

That said, these incentives only apply to new vehicles, so if youre looking for a used Tesla, youre out of luck there incentive-wise. Butthe savings that you get from buying a used Tesla can often be greater than the price of an incentive, so thats definitely worth considering!

Additionally, there are new EV incentives on the horizon as of January 1, 2023 which bring back the $7,500 credit for new EVs and a $4,000 credit for used EVs .

About The Tesla Model 3

The Affordable Tesla: Elon Musk Unveils Tesla

The Tesla Model 3 is the smallest, most affordable car in the American manufacturers range of EVs and was an Auto Express 2020 Car of The Year award winner. Its built to take on the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, but Tesla also has one eye on the arrival of the BMW i4, as well as upstart executive EVs from the likes of Polestar.

While the US automaker has undoubtedly set the early pace in electric car development, even mainstream manufacturers such as Ford, Hyundai and Kia are wheeling out products with the potential to upset the Tesla applecart – the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was our 2021 Car of the Year, while the Kia EV6 offers a sportier edge to accompany its family practicality.

Our Model 3 versus Polestar 2 head-to-head was settled in favour of the Tesla, but when the Model 3 came up against the Mustang Mach-E in a twin test, the overall verdict went to the Ford.

Following on from the success of the Model S saloon and Model X SUV, the Model 3 shares those cars combination of clever battery technology, powerful electric motors and high-tech onboard systems. Outside, the Model 3 also shares its siblings subdued styling, which easily flies under the radar a stark contrast to the remarkably minimalist interior thats all but bare save for a very large infotainment screen used to control virtually everything.

Tesla Model 3 5× More US Sales Than Chevy Bolt In Q1, 433× More Than BMW i3

CleanTechnica May 16, 2020

But if youre looking for an electric car, the Tesla Model 3 is one of your best options. Youll also find the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Bolt EUV and EV in this price range. However, the Model 3s performance chops, range, and features make it a competitive option.

The Chevy Bolt gets kudos for its range. But offering only 259 miles on a charge, it cant outperform the Model 3. And the Bolt accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds fast, but not faster than the Model 3. The Bolts infotainment center comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, but its 10-inch touchscreen is smaller than the Model 3s. However, the Bolt beats the Model 3 in total cargo space but at 16.9 cubic feet, not by much.

The Nissan Leaf offers substantially more cargo space than either option at 23.6 cubic feet. But with only 226 miles per charge and 214 hp and 250 lb-ft on only its top-level trims, it badly lags behind the base Model 3. Though the Leaf was one of the first EVs on the market, it has fallen in popularity thanks to competition in the decade since its introduction, including the Model 3. In fact, the cheapest Tesla is at or near the top of the pack when it comes to four-door cars.

The $150,000 Tesla Semi is said to have 300 miles of range, and the $180,000 Semi is rumored to have 500 miles of range. Finally, the Founders Series Tesla Semi is available for $200,000 and requires a $195,000 wire payment due within the first 10 days of reservation.

Used Tesla Semi prices arent available yet because the Semi has not yet been produced, but we estimate it will range in cost from $135,000 $190,000 depending upon mileage, condition, options, and other factors.

A $12,000 upgrade at the time of vehicle purchase, Full Self-Driving includes Navigate on Autopilot, City Steering, Auto Lane Change, Parking Assist, and Advanced Summon features, as well as access to future software updates the company promises will bring the technology ever closer to fulfilling the promise of its namesake.

With a similar number of flat edges as a Paper Mate pink eraser, Teslas trapezoidal oeuvre is that of any Californian millennials dream. But, like most dreams and ambitions, the Cybertruck is probably not coming anytime soon. The Cybertruck has recently been delayed to 2023, and if Tesla says something is delayed, expect that date to likely change. New Tesla Hatchback Performance

What does that mean for performance? Well, the lighter a car is, the quicker it can accelerate because its motor has less mass to move around. This new Tesla will probably only use one electric motor to keep its price down, but that doesnt mean itll be slow.

The Model 3 Standard Range Plus only uses a single electric motor, but itll do 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds. Thats almost half a second quicker than a Honda Civic Type R. Its possible that this new hatchback with its lighter chassis and new, high-tech batteries could be even quicker than that.

Is It Worth Getting A Tesla Model 3

A Tesla Model 3 offers a dual-motor Long Range variation for consumers who want to do more than just commute. Furthermore, if you want a quick EV, the Performance trim will launch you to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, faster than most sports cars. However, the Model 3 does have its setbacks. Consumer Reports suggests that the EV has distracting controls and too-harsh a ride to compete with the luxury cars like a Jaguar XF.

Tesla is known for being a luxury automaker, with prices as high as $100,000 for some models. So what is the cheapest Tesla you can buy new? Currently, thats the Model 3, which has a base price of $44,990.

That price will get you some pretty impressive specs, including a top speed of 140 mph and 267 miles of range. Thats not as high as Teslas other EVs, like the Model X Long Range, but its enough to compete with electric hatchbacks like the Nissan LEAF.

The Model 3 is also the cheapest model to lease, with direct-from-Tesla leases starting at $389 per month, with $5,584 due at signing.

Theres a bit of a wait for new Model 3s, though, with currently delivery estimates as far ahead as June 2022 which may leave you looking for other options.

Tesla Hatchback: Battery And Charging

While we dont know what sort of battery capacity to expect, Tesla has already revealed some big promises about the Hatchback’s battery. Promises that suggest it will come powered by the new 4680 battery cells, the same cells set to be used in the Tesla Cybertruck and the 2022 Model Y.

The 4680 cells use a tabless design which promises to offer six times the power and five times the energy capacity of comparable batteries – all while reducing the cost. That would be why the automaker can hit that coveted $25K price tag, something no other EV in North America has quite managed.

Currently the cheapest model on sale is the $25,200 Chevolet Bolt, or the $27,400 2022 Nissan Leaf with the full federal EV tax credit.

The battery is also going to help support the hatchbacks underpinnings, which will help reduce the cars overall weight. Combined with the smaller, lighter design, Tesla claims this will increase the hatchbacks range by a further 14%.

Its not clear what sort of charging speeds to expect with this car, though it will no doubt be compatible with Teslas supercharger network. We would be very surprised if it didn’t have the same 250kW maximum as other Teslas.
