When you collect the car, the car rental company will usually charge the following amounts to your credit card or debit card…

This amount is usually held on your credit card as something known as a pre authorisation. This means that the money is held on your card rather than taken, so you dont pay interest on the amount but the available balance of your credit card is reduced.
