Start Competing With Race Cars

Step 1: Join the SCCA. Sign up for your local Sports Car Club of America chapter.

In order to start competing with cars, rather than karts, youll need to join your local chapter of the SCCA. The SCCA has frequent events at tracks all over the country, that range from basic autocrossing to serious amateur competitions.

To join the SCCA, visit their site and fill out a form. You will also need to pay a national membership due of $65 plus regional fees up to $25. Before competing, you will also have to get a physical from a doctor.

  • Tip: The SCCA fees are less if you are under the age of 24 or an active member of the United States Military.

Step 2: Get a race car for yourself. If youre just getting started with racing, you can buy a cheap car and outfit it for the race track. Get a professional to perform a pre-purchase inspection of the car, before you finalize the deal.

Older, small sports cars, such as first generation Mazda Miatas, and Porsche 914s are very popular at SCCA events, because theyre affordable and perfect for learning to drive.

  • Tip: If you are buying a cheaper vehicle to learn to race in, you will need to make it race-ready by acquiring the necessary safety equipment, such as a roll cage and a five-point seatbelt.

You can also rent a sports car, if youd rather go that route. Your local SCCA chapter will be able to direct you to a good place for renting a top quality sports car.

Step 4: Start racing. Start competing in SCCA sanctioned events.

Nascar Las Vegas Auto Racing

LAS VEGAS Bubba Wallace tried to fight reigning NASCAR champion Kyle Larson after a crash Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway that also collected title contender Christopher Bell.

Wallace had led 29 laps and clearly had a fast car in the opening race of the third round of the playoffs. Wallace did not qualify for the playoffs, and Larson was eliminated last week.

The incident began when Larson attempted a three-wide pass Kevin Harvick in the middle dropped out of the bunch and Larson slid up the track against Wallace. When Wallace didn’t lift to give Larson any room, Larson used his Chevrolet to shove Wallace’s Toyota into the wall.

Wallace then bounced back down the track, followed Larson’s car down to the apron and appeared to deliberately hook him in retaliation. That sent Larson spinning into the path of Bell, who won last Sunday at Charlotte to earn the automatic berth into the round of eight, and ended Bell’s race.

Wallace climbed from his car and marched his way toward Larson. Wallace was shouting before he even got to Larson and immediately began to shove the smaller driver. Larson tried to turn away from him and several times lifted his arms to block Wallace’s shoves, but Wallace got in multiple shots before a NASCAR safety worker separated the two.

Wallace claimed he didn’t deliberately wreck Larson, but both Larson and Bell viewed it as clear retaliation. NASCAR could penalize Wallace if it also believes he deliberately retaliated.

Physical Fitness And Reflexes

HOW TO BECOME A RACE CAR DRIVER (How to get a racing license)

Excellent physical fitness allows a driver to endure high speeds. In the fastest vehicles, the driver experiences varying high levels of g-force, which can quickly drain the body of energy. Maintaining a high level of physical fitness can minimize the effect that racing has on the body. Fast reflexes are beneficial to the body in that they can prevent mistakes that lead to accidents. Well-tuned reflexes allow a driver to respond to the constantly shifting demands of a race, helping them to avoid collisions as well as to gain on competitors in head-to-head racing.
