If youre flying straight into Scotland on a direct flight , the best place to pick up your rental car is at the airport.
One of my top car rental Scotland tips is to rent from major cities. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports have good rental car facilities, with all the main companies represented. This is by far the best place to pick up your vehicle because it saves you the time and expense of having to get into the city center without your own transport . Even if there is an airport surcharge from the rental agency, I still generally find it worth it to rent from there.
However, should you need them , most of the main rental car companies also have offices in the city centers.
These city center offices are also a good option if you want to explore Scotland on a self-drive vacation before continuing your tour of the UK by other means. Just be aware that picking up your vehicle from one location and dropping it off at another will likely end up costing you more.
Stay On Established Roads
Its easy to get stuck or damage your vehicle when driving off-road.
It may be tempting to drive on the beach or on some of the saline mud flats, but please dont. In addition to causing long-lasting environmental damage, these terrains can be deceptively-inviting yet treacherous.
The calcareous beach sand in the Turks and Caicos is usually quite soft, and can bog down even capable four wheel drive vehicles. Please don’t drive on the beach.
The high salinity mud flats and wetlands found throughout the Turks and Caicos are another terrain to avoid. These flats typically have a surface layer that appears hard, yet has a mixture of soft mud and brine below. Cars and jeeps will simply break through the upper layer and become mired in a foot or two of corrosive slime. In the past, rental jeeps have been written off and renters have been held liable due to damage caused by driving in saline wetlands.

While drivers can get their license at age 16, its almost another decade before renting a car is a seamless process. But it is possible for young adults under the age of 25 to rent a car at some car rental agencies. In general, most major car rental agencies will rent to drivers 21 and up, and some will rent to even younger drivers, but these rentals come with surcharges and added restrictions.

Yes. Current Enterprise Plus elite members will receive a one-year status extension. So, if youre a Silver, Gold or Platinum level member with a tier expiration date of 2/28/2021, your current status will be extended through February 28, 2022.

So, the new invisible line or age limit is 21 now, right? Not exactly.;
Like the old 25-to-rent rule, this new age limit is just an industry convention. Some companies, such as Hertz, have lowered their minimum age to 20. Other brands like Budget have even reduced it to 18, although this is a short-term beta test that may or may not become the companys new standard.
Regardless of the ever changing nature of rental company policies, in some cases, state law takes precedence. Hertz will rent cars to individuals who are at least 20 years old with some rules. The renter must have a valid drivers license thats been in good standing for at least a year, have a valid debit or credit card and pay a Young Renter Daily Fee. But its possible to avoid the fee through membership programs. As a AAA member, drivers ages 21 to 24 might not need to pay the surcharge if they meet rental qualifications. The surcharge can vary by location. Hertz also limits the types of cars young drivers can rent, precluding them from sports cars and luxury vehicles that come from the Dream Cars, Prestige and Adrenaline collections.
At Enterprise, the minimum age to rent a car is 21 years, and a young renter fee might be applied for those ages 21 to 24. The average fee is $20 per day, but it can be higher based on the rental location. While its allowable for young renters ages 18 to 20 to rent cars in Michigan and New York, those who fall in this age range are subject to even higher surcharges $57 per day in New York and $40 per day in Michigan.
