Chemical Etching From Acid Rain
Rain is always somewhat acidic because it naturally dissolves carbon dioxide, or CO2, from the atmosphere, which falls down in weak carbonic acid form with a pH level of around 5.0-5.5.
Any acid, no matter how weak, will deteriorate the paint of your car if your vehicle is left to sit outside indefinitely. Usually, rainfall isnt too bad as long as you wash your car regularly.
However, if you live near an industrial area with a lot of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, the rain can become more acidic.
Strong volcanic activity can eject high amounts of sulfur dioxide, or SO2, and other acidic gasses into the atmosphere, also causing acid rain.
Whatever the reason, rainfall can bring a significant amount of acids down to the surface, including on your car parked in the street.

Will Claying Remove Calcium And Magnesium Deposits
Claying is the best solution when it comes to removing contaminants from your cars surface. When vinegar and CLR fail to get rid of hard water stains, you should definitely bring out the big guns a clay bar.
Claying is very useful at removing hard water stains, streaks, dirt, and other contaminants that may have bonded to your car surface.
Most people are afraid of claying their cars because it is time-consuming and requires a lot of effort. However, it is very effective. And should be done occasionally as it also strips waxes from the car paint.
How To Remove Water Spots By Hand
We have already seen various steps involving the removal of water spots by hand. You are advised to follow these steps to the T. If the water spot has etched into the finish, then you have to go to the lowest spot of the spot to get it removed. In that case, you might need machine polishing. Or you might need an aggressive polish/pad combination. But you have to remember the fact that you are supposed to use the least aggressive method. In some cases, you may have to go for wet sanding. The biggest lesson to learn here is that you should try to keep your car as dry and clean as possible. We would recommend indoor parking.

How To Get Water Stains Out Of Leather Car Seats
Water stains on leather are a little different. In this case, youre dealing with water spotting which has dried the leather out or damaged it in another way. When the water evaporates, it will pull away oils and moisture from the leather creating a harder, sometimes discolored dry spot.Dont worry though, this can be easily fixed. Because leather is a softer material and is easier to wipe clean, you should think of this as conditioning rather than cleaning.
Option : Cr Spotless Portable Water System
Out of both of the options I recommend, a spotless portable water system is probably the most affordable for most people that are simply washing vehicles. This device works using a process called de-ionization, which is the process of removing charged particles in order to release hydrogen and oxygen .
To learn more about these benefits and uses of purified water, check out a post I wrote: Deionized vs Distilled Water for Detailing When to Use It!
This entry-level single filter system by CR Spotless will provide around 150 gallons of water, which can last anywhere from 10-20 washes depending on how much water you use. Some people will it as a spot-free rinse, while using harder water to apply soap, but it really depends on your water quality.
Griots also makes a similar portable de-ionized system for around the same price point.
Keep in mind both of these units are demineralizers, not softeners. They basically remove and are ideal for washing vehicles.

Apply A New Coat Of Wax
Wax is the barrier that protects your paint from wear and damage, and its essential to have a good coat of it on your car to keep water spots from developing. When you apply wax to your vehicle, you create a slick and waterproof surface. Rain will bead off a new wax job and run off the car.
- Chamois, microfiber cloth, or another polisher
Make sure your car is clean and dry before you begin applying the wax. Warm the wax in your palm to get it soft and spreadable, and then use an applicator to spread the wax over the paint in a thin layer.
Let the wax harden, and then buff it with a microfiber cloth or chamois. Repeat until the car is gleaming.
Gently Scrub The Stain
Use a damp sponge to clean the seat and remove the stains. It is helpful to wait a little longer once you apply the cleaning if you are dealing with tough stains. Keep your eyes on the solution to ensure that it does not dry on the seat as it could add to the stains. A soft-bristled brush can help you remove the tough stains. Be careful when using a brush as it could scratch the leather seat.

Swirls, water spots and of course, scratches are probably the most common issues faced by vehicle owners with regard to damage suffered by the paint. So, as a car owner you must be aware of several ways to deal with them effectively.
It is almost cruel that the water that you use to give your car a wash can also result in the paintwork being damaged. Water spots can be broadly categorized into two types:
Type one being the kind which is actually just the mineral deposit left over on the surface after the water has evaporated;Type two is the kind that etches the surface; the etching is caused by a compound in water which is powerful enough to dissolve the paint itself.
The common denominator for both types is that it isnt actually the water that causes water spots; rather, it is the deposits, sediments or minerals that are often found in the water. These deposits could take the form of minerals like calcium that may be found in tap water. They could also be the pollutants that pour down in form of acid rain.
Discussed as follows are some common hacks for removing water spots from your cars exterior.

Better: Basic Car Polish
A regular car polish is generally one of the best ways to remove stubborn hard water spots if you already have a polisher.
Anything abrasive like a compound or polish can soften the clear coat with repeated use, which is why its best to use something non-abrasive for most cases. If etching has started, it may be your best option.

Can Clr Clean Hard Water Stains From Auto Glass
As mentioned earlier, yes it can. When it comes to the removal of calcium and lime deposits from glass, there is no better remover than CLR.
However, this is a product that is mostly used on household glass. And that raises the concern, is it safe to use CLR on auto glass.
Unlike bathroom glass, auto glass is very delicate. Plus, it may contain some treatments and products like a tint.
Moreover, it is surrounded by plastic and car paint which is also vulnerable to damage especially when exposed to harsh products such as CLR.
If you are dealing with hard water stains on your car and havent gained much success with car shampoos and other cleaners, it is worth giving CLR a try.
But, first, we recommend that you dilute. When you open CLR, the smell is enough proof of how strong it is.
Therefore, dilute it in water and dab some on a microfiber cloth and then wipe on the glass. Dont be very generous with the solution as it may spill and etch through paint.
Rub the CLR and water mixture on the car windows until the entire surface is covered. Let it sit for a minute. Clean off the residue gently and then rinse it off with water.
Your auto glass will be clean and clear, all the hard water stains will be removed.
CLR is acidic and thats why it is so effective at removing hard water deposits because Calcium is an alkali. However, CLR is only safe for use on glass and nothing else.
Car Paint Stains Simplified
So lets review for a moment, shall we? Most of the common stains found on car paint are caused by outside sources, and the stain itself is not really embedded into the paint, but stuck on the clear coat, or whatever protectant thats been applied atop said transparent surface.
All of the stains listed above can be quite difficult to remove too, some of which require the application of specialized cleaners, degreasers, or deep cleaning products like polishing and cutting compounds. Breaking out the old electric orbital polisher typically means cutting into the clear coat until the complete depth of the stain has been removed. This is a job best left to the pros, a topic that we will discuss in detail here shortly.

What Are The Most Common Car Stains
When you notice a paint stain on your daily driver or garage queen, dont panic! Its not the end of the world. In fact, chances are the blemish isnt even engrained into the paint itself, but merely stuck upon the clear coat surface that has been layered over the paint. This is one of the primary purposes of clear coat applications, as they serve as the first line of defense against smudges and splatter.
Typically, a healthy car clear coat will make stain removal a cinch, as it repels the unsavory contaminant, and merely requires a quick wipe-down with a clean microfiber cloth and a spritz of detailing spray.
However, there are a few car paint stains that are tougher to remove than others. Here are a handful of the most common automotive stubborn stains, along with the pro-approved cleaning chemicals and removal methods that make their elimination far less of a hassle.
