German Automakers Rule The Us Luxury Market Genesis Is Determined To Change That

9 Newest Genesis Cars and SUVs of 2022: Complete Lineup with Elevated Luxury Standards

Genesis is getting noticed for its sleek designs and attention to detail.

The sleek silhouette was breathtaking: A long clamshell hood that appeared to go on indefinitely. An interior swathed in upcycled, sustainable materials. A futuristic dashboard connected to a “floating” center console.

The automotive work of art could have been German. Or British. The clue that gave it away: A shield-shaped Crest Grille.

Genesis, the luxury vehicle division of Korean automaker Hyundai, was sending a veiled message to its competitors with the Genesis X Concept, a chic, high performance electric GT the marque debuted on March 30.

Over the last two years, Genesis has been busy racking up industry awards and earning praise from the automotive community as it rapidly rolls out new models. U.S. consumers, who tend to be brand loyal, are only starting to take notice of Genesis. But the inveterate leaders in the highly competitive space — BMW, Mercedes, Lexus and Audi — are bracing for a protracted fight.

“It’s a credible brand with its own identity and personality,” Ed Kim, vice president of industry analysis at AutoPacific, told ABC News. “Most luxury automakers are trying to emulate BMW. Genesis is setting itself apart from a design perspective. That’s a good thing.”

No One Knows About Genesis

Speaking of being not very well known, Genesis is still a baby brand in the large world of manufacturing cars, especially luxury cars. When you compare and contrast Genesis with its competitors, the company is young and unknown…really unknown.

It appears that Genesis has beengrappling with its brand recognition and getting it out there into the thoughts of potential car owners. One of the ways theyve been failing at this is the fact that they have a very limited number of dealerships worldwide to sell from, which obviously limits potential sales noticeably. Genesis needs to expand the public knowledge of its brand, and break out from under the umbrella of Hyundai.

Common Genesis Cars Models

With that, the following are some awesome Genesis cars that you can find in the market.

Engine Transmission And Performance

The standard engine will be a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine that’s found in other Genesis models. An eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive arrangements are also expected to be standard. The engine makes a stout 375 horsepower and should deliver brisk acceleration. A 420-hp powertrain will also be offered and uses 48-volt hybrid system and an electric supercharger to boost the output from the twin-turbo V-6. An air suspension will be available and Genesis has said the car will feature a “Chauffeur” driving mode which we assume will create an extra-smooth experience for passengers. An electric variantlikely to use the name Electrified G90is also expected, but Genesis has not yet released any info about that car. When we get a chance to test drive the new G90, we’ll update this story with test results and driving impressions.

Apart from this other models have also received great remarks for their excellent quality and craftsmanship. Their cars are made to look elegant, and it is not hard to see why they are a great choice for the wealthy.

The main downside is that the price is a bit steep, especially if you dont have the budget. However, if budget is not an issue for you, Genesis cars are worth a look!

Their Cars Are Cheaper Than Other Luxury Brands

Sometimes established luxury car brands with big names just release an average car and slap a fortune on it, but with Genesis, you’d be getting your money’s worth. At first, auto critics weren’t impressed by Genesis’ price-cutting strategy.

Genesis regularly offers more features and technology advancement at a lower price, which people are beginning to know the brand for. However, many people would rather buy a brand name than quality.

Peter Schreyer is a much-revered figure within the auto design world. A mere mention of his name and colleagues smile with admiration for he is credited for sketching the original TT – the 1998 Audi that turned heads with its formal simplicity, clean aesthetic and cool Bauhaus-inspired design.

Nowadays, as creative director of Hyundai-Kia and one of three presidents of the company, Schreyer has been instrumental in creating the existing theme. Under his astute eyes, the South Korean company has metamorphosed into an exciting car brand with an inspired portfolio to compete head-on with older, more established rivals. Lately, Schreyer has been busy inventing a new global luxury marque, Genesis.

Recently a journalist asked if the world needs another luxury brand, he offers as we settle down for coffee, to which I replied: I dont know but Hyundai wants a luxury brand, he smiles. The South Korean economy is blossoming, as is Hyundai-Kia. I think the time has come and we need to be building something special at the pinnacle of the brand. It fits with the Korean mentality.

It will then major on the online buying experience, mirroring the home delivery kind of model of Polestar.

The firm will also sell cars directly to customers rather than through a network, with models set to be sold for a fixed price and with a five-year care plan, including the warranty, servicing, roadside assistance and a courtesy car.

The Beginning Of Motoring Luxury

Hyundai Genesis Sedan Killed Off In The UK Only 50 Cars Sold

Launched by the Hyundai Motor Group last 2003, Genesis Motor was focused in transforming rear-wheel drive sports sedans into works of art. With the first model released a couple of years later, 2007, the brand then started up as a standalone company.

Hyundai continued to support the brand, dedicating space for the models, which did appeal to motorists in owning some of these excellent vehicles. The brand also recently launched its very first SUV this year, 2020.

Released to the appeal of Korean motorists last 2015, the Genesis G90 is also the brands flagship car. Representing the best in luxury and high performance motoring ingenuity, this car set the tone on what this brand has to offer for the automobile industry. And not only does the G90 look good and performs excellently its a consistent winner when it comes to safety tests, proof that the Genesis Motor brand prioritizes both driver and passenger wellness.

That emphasis into detail can also be seen in the cars exterior design. Its side profile is perfectly proportioned its wheels focused in creating an illuminated diamond.

The interior doesnt only look good. Comfort and safety are both emphasized, creating an outstanding motoring experience like no other.

Genesis And The Suv Market

When Genesis became an independent car brand in 2018, they didn’t have an SUV in their lineup. The GV80, Genesis’ first SUV got released in January 2020. The GV80 has three power trains. The 2.5L Smartstream G2.5 T-GDi I4 petrol engine delivers 300hp and an acceleration of 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. The 3.5L Smartstream G3.5 T-GDi V6 petrol engine produces 375hp and an acceleration of 0-60 5.5 seconds.

Genesis’ GV80 diesel engine is a 3.0L Smartstream D3.0 CRDi I6 with 274hp and an acceleration of 0-60 in 6.8 seconds. Genesis recalled the GV80 eight times and about four times the problem was engine-related. The luxury brand also has the 2022 GV70 SUV on the way.

They Got Sued By Dealers

After establishing Genesis as a standalone brand, Genesis models were still being sold at Hyundai dealerships. The luxury brand decided to get separate dealerships, and that’s sensible. The execution of this plan failed, though. It might sound crazy, but Hyundai’s dealers sued the Genesis brand and claimed that they were preferential.

Some of these dealers were in Louisiana, and that’s against Louisiana law. The dealers won. What next? Genesis created Genesis Motors America to import and distribute their cars in the United States. They later achieved dealership separation from Hyundai even though their dealerships were right next to Hyundai’s at a point.

A Used Sports Car Has Connotations

The second piece of the puzzle here is the sports part of the Hyundai Genesis branding. People understand what most drivers do with a sports car they drive them fast and hard. There is assumed wear and tear for any car that supposed to be fast and sporty. Although the Hyundai Genesis tends to receive great marks across the board by reviewers, these cars still show a massive depreciation on the used market.

Unlike the more famous, purpose-built exotic sports cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, or McLaren, Hyundai doesnt have the reputation of finicky and expensive repairs like those others. A used Ferarri will typically dip in price dramatically after 50,000 miles or so because expensive problems are likely inbound. Hyundai isnt really that way, but the cars still depreciate dramatically. It is sort of hard to put a finger on exactly why this is but in some ways it still makes sense.

Hyundai is rapidly changing and maybe even has completely transformed from a cheap economy car to a marque that makes high-quality, luxury drivers cars. The Hyundai Genesis just hasnt quite grabbed the used car markets attention, but who knows, maybe it will. But until then, if a Hyundai Genesis catches your eye, maybe consider snagging a used one for much cheaper.

They Have An Official Golf Tournament

NEW Genesis GV80 2021 review the SUV that saved Tiger Woods? | What Car?

Genesis is very much like other companies in the US with its love of plastering its brand all over the landscape and TV screen. The NFL from the previous entry is a great example of that, even when it doesnt work. The Genesis Invitational is another example of the company trying to be in the public eye as often as possible.

The Genesis Invitational is a golf tournament that takes place in Southern California. This Genesis Invitational is a relatively recent thing, being the name of the tournament only from 2017. The tournament has been sponsored by other companies in the past.

They’ve Made Some Stunning Concept Cars

Concept cars are always great opportunities for a manufacturer to show off their wilder ideas, and Genesis has certainly not disappointed. Their most recent concept is the Genesis X, a stunning GT coupe that’s all-electric and seemingly quite production-ready.

RELATED: It’s A Tragedy That These Incredible Concept Cars Never Made It To Production

Previously, they’ve made the more restrained Mint concept, which focused on a smaller luxury car for the city. There’s also the Essentia, which is pictured above. It’s another electric concept but even more low-slung and futuristic than the X, and it looks a lot more expensive than Genesis’ current lineup pricing would suggest.

Genesis Will Deliver Their Car To Your Door

Takeout is a service that Genesis Motors provides. A straight to your door,deliver-right-to-your-house service. Wow. You dont even need to do this from a dealership as the company sends them straight to you once theyre completed.

This is fantastically insane yet it perfectly presents the lifestyle that someone with the wealth to purchase a luxury car like a G90 would have. Sadly, most people can only wish they could do something this irresponsibly cool.

Interior Comfort And Cargo

Like the exterior, the G90’s cabin gets an overhaul for 2023 too, with a fresh design and posh materials that will help it go head-to-head with its rivals. Passenger space is likely to be generous in both the front and the back seats and Genesis has incorporated several features that intend to take the luxury experience up a notch. An on-board fragrance diffuser, for example, and an anti-microbial sanitation system that cleans both the air and items that are brought into the car such as smartphones. Of course, features such as massaging seats and a premium stereo system will also be included.

They Offer Two Crossovers As Well

Genesis New York Concept challenges BMW 3

As well as their original sedans, two crossover SUVs now form part of the brand’s lineup. The GV70 and GV80 are also competing in a crowded sector, but they aim to stand out partly by being a significant amount cheaper than their rivals. Of course, that means more scrutiny has then been placed on their quality and finish, but so far most reviewers agree that these cars hold up against more expensive competitors.

Car and Drivereven gave the GV80 an incredible 10/10 rating, calling it a bargain and praising its range of luxury features. It seems then that the brand is off to a great start in the SUV sector, although how well that critical praise translates to sales remains to be seen. SUV sales are booming at the moment, and hopefully, Genesis will be able to take a share of this growing market.

Who Owns Which Car Brands

A road map to auto industry ownership and partnerships

The auto industry has a very confusing family tree. The past decade has seen partnerships, sales, separations, bankruptcies, and entire divisions killed off, making it difficult to keep up with who owns which car brands.

As automakers have slimmed down to become more profitable and efficient, we have seen storied names, such as Mercury, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac, fade into the history books. We have seen others, such as Chrysler, Jaguar, and Volvo, find new corporate parents, outside their original country. And new companies have risen, such as Rivian and Tesla.

To help clear up some of the confusion, we present a road map to who owns which car brands sold in the U.S.

Several brands that have been retired are included in the list, such as Scion, because models are still available on the used-car market. We have omitted small-volume brands, such as Aston Martin and Ferrari, that are without major automaker parent companies.

Most brand names link to brand pages, where you will find links to current and past road tests.

Of course, the list is subject to change. To find out how the major brands compare in reliability, owner satisfaction, and road-test performance, see our brand report cards.
