The World’s Fastest Car!

When we covered the SSC Tuatara back in 2011, the plan was to upsize the 6.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine it designed for the SSC Ultimate Aero, the Tuatara’s predecessor, to 7.0 liters. But founder Jarod Shelby wanted to fit a flat-plane crank to the engine, and there’s just no getting an engine that big to live in a production car capable of achieving 300-plus mph while still remaining drivable around town or at a track. So in 2013 the 7.0-liter engine was abandoned in favor of a 5.9-liter version with a meticulously balanced crank and exotic engine mounts filled with a proprietary gel.

The engine is rated at 1,750 horsepower and 1,280 lb-ft of torque when running on E85 fuel . The engine spins to a lofty 8,800 rpm and requires an impressive 11 different heat exchangers, including two whoppers for the dedicated air-to-water intercooler system, which is said to be capable of dropping boosted air temperatures by 160 to 200 degrees. Four more radiators cool the engine, two cool the gearbox, and one each take care of the engine oil, power steering, and air conditioning. The gearbox, by the way, is a seven-speed auto-clutch manual by CIMA/Automac Engineering, which has its basis in a helicopter transmission.

The record for the worlds fastest car is currently held by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ at a whopping 304.77 mph. However, the car that set this record in August 2019 was not a standard production model.

Is Bugatti The Fastest Car In The World

The current world record was set by a prototype Bugatti Super Sport Chiron 300+.

On August 2, 2019, test driver Andy Wallace took the Bugatti out on a German racetrack. His goal: to break the supposedly unbreakable limit of 300 mph .

His car, the Super Sport prototype, was a heavily modified version of the basic Chiron. The award-winning AWD platform had been enhanced with laser height sensors that raised and lowered the chassis, allowing the car to hug the pavement as closely as possible at all times. The passenger seat was removed the chassis had been elongated and equipped with a carbon fiber roll cage.

The engine itself had been upgraded, with a quad turbo system adding 100 horsepower to the traditional Bugatti model, for a total of 1580 horsepower, roughly the same as 7 fire trucks put together.

The brake system was compacted. The fins had been removed. The gas tank had only enough for the one run. The total weight was under 1980 kg.

Wallace did a few laps to warm up the engine. Then, on the main drag, he gunned the engine. The car smashed through the 300 mph barrier, briefly hitting 304 before its rpms maxed. This is roughly as fast as a propeller plane or a maglev train at cruising speed.

The prototype has since entered production, and 30 cars will roll out over the course of 2020. The cost of each is set around four million British pounds.

Bugatti Chiron

With traits borrowed from the Veyron, the Bugatti Chiron keeps the luxury car brands name in the top with sophisticated design lines and plenty of power to push the superb production car to speeds most cars can only dream of.

The Chiron boasts a 1,500 hp quad turbocharged 8 liter W16, which, combined with lightweight materials such as titanium and carbon fiber, pushes the car from zero to 62 mph in only 2.6 seconds and to a top speed of 261 mph.

Another wonderful Koenigsegg, the Gemera, is a four seater, the first of its kind coming from the Swedish hypercar manufacturer. Designed with touring in mind, the car still manages to reach an amazing top speed of 249 mph.

Like the CCXR, it also uses E85 fuel, making it environmentally friendly. The interesting thing is that it uses a compact camless piston engine that got nicknamed the Tiny Friendly Giant. Besides this, it also has three additional electric motors, totaling no less than a whooping 1,700 hp.

What Is The Fastest Car 0 To 60

The Bugattis massive top speed is more due to its extremely aerodynamic body, which minimizes drag, than it is due to raw acceleration.

In fact, the Bugattis 0-60 speed is only 2.4 seconds. Compared to, say, a family station wagon, 2.4 seconds is absurdly fast. However, compared to other exotic cars, it barely cracks the top ten.

The fastest car from 0 to 60 is a prototype Aspark Owl, a low-profile, ultralight, fully electric Japanese sports car. In test runs, it goes from 0 to 60 in under 1.7 seconds.

Asparks ridiculous acceleration has been achieved by maximizing the advantages of electric vehicle technology while minimizing the disadvantages. Because electric engines scale down well, the OWL has exchanged the typical engine for four smaller engines, each linked to a wheel. This setup dramatically improves power, and reduces weight, by eliminating the AWD transmission and drivetrain.

Additionally, as an EV, the OWL does not have an exhaust system, meaning that production models do not need catalytic converters, which in most supercars cause a 2-3% loss of engine power. The OWL also has no need for air brakes , central cooling, turbos, air intakes, or a carburetor, reducing both weight and drag.

Meanwhile, the Achilles heel of EVs, the heavy battery, has been minimized. The OWL battery is relatively small, with a range of 450 km, which drops at higher speeds. This allows for the ultrahigh acceleration, but limits the OWLs road functionality.

In November of 2017, a Koenigsegg Agera RS, running E85 fuel , was driven by a factory driver to a two-way average speed of 277.8 mph on an 11-mile strip of closed road in Nevada. The car, owned by a customer who suggested the feat, actually hit 284.5 mph during the record attempt, which is staggering. At the time, it also nabbed the fastest zero-to-250 mph-to-zero metric , the highest average speed during the flying kilometer and for the flying mile on a public road .

The CCXR uses the same 4.7-liter twin-turbo V-8 mill as the CCX, but the Swedish company modded the power plant to run on E85 race gas, which shot the power from 795 hp up into the four-figure range1,004 hp to be exact. Given the CCXRs upgraded aerodynamics package and engine, it would be interesting to see how it performs in a proper top-speed run thats in a straight line and not on a circular track .

Acceleration Without Shifting A Gear

World’s fastest car: Vehicle aims to break record by 2020

Gears slow down an internal combustion-engined car. Even the fastest gearboxes in the world fitted to gas-powered cars lag as they shift from gear to gear. Electric vehicles also have gearboxes, but they usually have only one gear and no clutch, unlike gas-powered cars.

Electric cars achieve higher revolutions per minute than electric cars. Most gas-powered cars will rev to 7000 RPM, while electric cars will rev to 20,000 RPM. Therefore, there is no need to change gears to keep the motor compensated.

In a nutshell, that means no time is wasted shifting through multiple gears as the car speeds up.

Because electric cars dont have to shift gears, all the power is available straight away. There is no waiting whatsoever, which is why you often hear the term instant torque associated with electric cars.

Bugatti Veyron 164 Super Sport: 431 Km/h

The U.S. didnt hold its record for long, because Bugatti was coming back strong with an upgraded Veyron. The Super Sport used a refined version of the speed key aerodynamic package and came with a more powerful engine, increasing the top speed. However, here in car history is where engined began to outstrip tire technology. Even with Veyrons famously low downforce, 430 km/h burned through tires within minutes. On test runs, new tires were added after each time the speed maxed out. To prevent high-speed blowouts, Bugatti was forced to add an electronic limiter, preventing casual drivers from exceeding 415 km/h.

As we have discussed above, the manufacturer has redesigned the bodywork. Resultant, the sports car has gone under few-dimensional changes. For instance, the length & weight of the Modified Chiron has changed. Now, the rear ends up with a long tail. Whereas, the width, height & wheelbase of the modified Chiron remains the same which is 2.038 mm, 1,212 mm, and 2,711 mm respectively.

The Ssc Tuatara Claims Fastest Car In The World Title

The fastest production car is AmericanSweden’s Koenigsegg was the previous record-holder.

After a much-publicized and highly scrutinized initial top-speed record run in October of last yearyou can read about that run below, and the controversy hereSSC has announced a new top-speed record for production cars at 282.9 mph with its Tuatara hypercar. It was the third attempt for the company after the initial run and a December effort thwarted by mechanical issues professional racer Oliver Webb was the driver in October, while the car’s owner, Larry Caplin, took the wheel for tries two and three.

The Tuatara hit a two-way average speed of 282.9 mph using 2.3 miles of a three-mile runway at Kennedy Space Center, with the data being captured using Racelogic VBOX equipment, as well as hardware and/or software from Life Racing and Garmin. The International Mile Racing Association is also touted as validating the speed. The first, northbound run registered 279.7 mph, while during the second, the Tuatara hit 286.1 mph in 1.9 miles before Caplin began to decelerate. The runs were made 50 minutes apart. SSC still plans to attempt to break the 300-mph mark, extending its own record and becoming the first production vehicle to reach or exceed that speed. Video of the latest runs can be viewed below:

The Fastest Production Cars In The World

Speed matters, especially when it comes to the fastest cars in the world.

But what manufacturers claim their multi-million pound hypercars are capable of and what they have actually been proven to achieve are two very different things. Thats why this list focuses on recorded times, not the theoretical top speed figures. Unless it set a time in real life, it hasnt made the cut.

Like owning a watch that works on the moon, or a pen that can write at 200m under the sea, its nice to know that, your car can perform miles-per-hour miracles – were you to find somewhere where it was safe and legal to do so.

The Worlds Fastest Cars

The car industry has shown remarkable innovation and engineering over the years. Not only do manufacturers push the boundaries in design, they also blow the world away with the ferocity and speed that new sports cars can reach. Hitting well over 400km/h, these are the fastest cars on the road.

Hennessey Venom GT: 270.49mph

In February 2014, the Hennessey Venom GT reached a speed of 270.49mph which unofficially broke the world record for the fastest car in the world. Allegedly, the car couldnt be tested in both directions due to organizational difficulties and therefore the record remains unofficial. However, the car currently holds the world record for the fastest production car and there is no doubt that this machine is a real super car. The Hennessey Venom GT has a V8 twin turbo engine and costs around $1.2 million. In December last year, the UK manufacturer announced that 11 of the proposed 29 Hennessey cars were already sold.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: 267.8mph

When you think about a fast car, we bet the Bugatti Veyron jumps to mind. The Bugatti Veyron, a French designed car, is certainly reserved for a select few with an astronomical price tag of $2.5 million. Although it is extraordinarily expensive, the Veyron is one of the fastest cars around with a top speed of 267.8mph .

Hennessey Venom Gt: 2704 Mph

The fifth fastest car on the list is the Venom GT. The supercar is designed and developed by Hennessy Performance in Texas, USA. This is not only the fastest supercar from the manufacturer that broke the speed record. Well, we have its sibling too. You will get to know late

Hennessy Venom GT has broken the world speed record back on March 25, 2016. The top speed was tested on the occasion of the company 25th anniversary at California Naval Air station. And guess what? Venom did break. The supercar recorded a top speed of 270.479 mph .

Well, wait! Records dont stop here. Before setting this world speed record, theVenom GT claimed the Guinness World Record for the fastest road-legal car inthe world. This record was set on January 21, 2013. The American supercar recorded 0 300 km/h in just 13.63 seconds whereas 0 322 km/h came under 14.51 seconds.

So, how did Hennessey Venom GTis broke two records simultaneously?

Hennessey as a brand is known for its range of custom and performance vehicles. Lets see what they tweaked in Venom GT!

Engine The Hennessey has used a customisedLotus motor engine. This mid-mounted 7.0 L V8 engine boasts a maximum power of 1,244hp & 1,566 Nm of max torque.

With that mechanical stuff, the GT also gets an aero system with a self-adjusting rear wing to keep it stick with the road.

The Aerodynamics Of A 3157

TOP 10 Fastest Cars in the world 2022

The roster of aero tricks is remarkably unremarkable. Naturally there’s a full-body belly pan incorporating venturis that direct air out a rear diffuser while creating downforce, air curtains for the front wheels, small fins ahead of the front wheels, and modest little rear winglets. The drag coefficient is 0.279, and the front/rear aero-weight balance remains at a constant 37/63 percent from 150 to 312 mph. Air flows so efficiently over former Pininfarina designer Jason Castriota’s bodywork that with the side windows open at 200 mph, barely any air comes in unless you stick a hand out to scoop some. Italy’s Potio Engineering assisted in designing the elaborate ductwork that conducts air efficiently through all those radiators and coolers, drawing on their its extensive F1 simulation experience.

Koenigsegg Agera Rs: 447 Km/h

After ten years out of the spotlight, Koenisseg finally captured the worlds attention with the Agera RS. The design of this car shows that the Swedes had been closely watching their competitors. The rear wing moves dynamically and automatically, decreasing downforce gradually after speed exceeds 250 km/h. The engine is twin turbo, similar to SSCs Ultimate Aero, but with a higher displacement.

However, Koenigsegg also pushed the envelope forward with their One:1 platform: making cars with a 1:1 horsepower:weight ratio. For every kg of car, the engine provided 1 horsepower. This was achieved by finally ditching the kevlar in favor of carbon fibre plating, as well as through continuous improvements in engine and exhaust efficiency.

While Bugatti bosses said they wouldnt do a top-speed run , one owner hit up Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds to see the 1,500 hp Chiron realize its limited top speed of 261 mph. The speedometer goes up to 310 mph, though, so undoubtedly the 2018 Chiron can go much faster, but the folks at Bugatti cite tire limitations as the reason for the factory-installed governor.
