Claims management companies may cold call people saying that they have records that you were in an accident. They claim to have got your information from the national road accident database or a governmental body. This is not correct. No government agency or department holds names, addresses or telephone numbers of people who have been in road traffic accidents.
There is no national database of accidents with names, telephone numbers and addresses. Government departments do not hold any of this information, and even if they did, they would not supply it to anyone under any circumstances as citizen personal data would be protected under the Data Protection Act.
If you have been contacted in such a way, it is most likely to be as a result of cold calling or random number dialling. If you are able to get a contact name and number for the company you can report them to the Claims Management Regulator.
Statistics on road safety in Great Britain are mostly based on personal-injury accidents reported to the police in the Stats19 collection. Information on Stats19 can be found in the report form and the guidance document used by the police.
However, Stats19 remains the most detailed, complete and reliable single source of information on road casualties covering the whole of Great Britain, in particular for monitoring trends over time.

All Road Users Are Affected

Fatal car accidents and road crash injuries are a serious global health concern, and for good reason, especially if you look at the following annual global road crash statistics. They are from an infographic published by the World Health Organization :

How To Bring Down Car Deaths
Controlling speeds on roads is the most important goal of any car safety strategy. There are two main ways to do that: change the physical design of the road with traffic calming measures that encourage slower driving, like narrowing lanesandadding speed bumps, or change the legal speed limit, which is easier and inexpensive but less effective.
Some cities that have committed to eliminating car fatalities have shown promising results. New York Citys traffic deaths reached a low of 200 in 2018 , down from 299 five years before, after making major citywide changes: lowering speed limits to 25 mph, installing speed cameras, and testing traffic calming measures, like these posts installed at dangerous turns. The suburban city of Fremont, California, fatalities and severe injuries by 45 percent between 2015 and 2020.
Other ideas have proven promising. Installing roundabouts instead of traditional intersections is highly effective at saving lives in US rural areas, which have death rates far above the national average because of their high speeds and lack of physical barriers between lanes. Deaths can be dramatically reduced with the addition of medians or central turn lanes.
But the US should also look beyond its borders for solutions. Some of the most transformative recent case studies come from abroad, and they have much to teach Americans about whats possible.

The National Highway Safety Administration estimates that 28,190 persons died in traffic accidents over January to September 2020, up over 26,941 in the same time in 2019. These latest figures, according to police, are due to an increase in unsafe driving behavior.
