Mazda Us Car Sales Data
This is your hub for all of the Mazda sales data for the U.S market.
Mazda is a relatively small company when compared to other Japanese major automakers such as Toyota and Honda, usually ranking around 15th in the world by sales. Yet their cars are almost always affordable, reliable, well-engineered, efficient, and fun to drive.
Their first vehicle was the Mazda-Go, the first auto rickshaw, a 3-wheeled cross between a truck and a motorcycle that was first introduced in 1931. Their first four-wheeled vehicles were trucks, starting in the 1950s, and they introduced their first real car, the 2-door micro-mini R360 Coupe in 1960. In 1962, the Carol 360 was announced, a 4-door micro-mini with room for four adults. With these vehicles, the manufacturer captured a large part of the lightweight car market in Japan. Over the years the Mazda lineup expanded, adding larger and more powerful vehicles. In 1970, Mazda started selling vehicles in the United States, beginning with the RX-2, and the rest is history.
Where Are They Assembled
The Mazda CX-5 is assembled at the Hiroshima plant, and also at Mazdas assembly facility in Hofu, Yamaguchi, both of which are in Japan.
The assembly of the vehicle represents the final phase in the process of manufacturing, it is here that components supplied by outside suppliers, including company-owned parts suppliers, are brought together for assembly,

The pandemic crushed new-vehicle sales last year in the United States, with behemoths like Ford Motor, General Motors and Honda all posting double-digit sales declines. Altogether, the sales slide reached 15 percent, with under 14.5 million new cars hitting American roads, down from a five-year average of around 17 million.
But Mazda the 13th-ranked carmaker in America was one of just three to increase sales last year.
The critical accolades piled up, as well. U.S. News and World Report, for the fifth year, made Mazda its Best Car Brand. Every one of its new models that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested was a Top Safety Pick, more than any other brand. It ranked No. 1 in a Consumer Reports survey on the most reliable new vehicles. And then this year, Mazda received the top spot in that magazines coveted Brand Report Card, based on a combined score that measures road-test performance, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction and safety.
And driving was the next-best thing. Mazdas have this image of being an escape, Mr. Edwards added.
With all of the rules being rewritten, they were able to pick up additional people that were reconsidering what vehicles they were going to consider, Mr. Edwards said.

Shinichi Isayama, who is the chief designer, also played a role in designing the CX-5.
When designing the CX-5, the pair claimed that modern road safety regulations caused cars to become less visually appealing.
Their goal when designing the new CX-5 was to treat the car as art.
They aimed to create a beautiful car that would grab the attention of other people.
Mazda has taken a new format in designing their cars, the reverse of traditional car designs.
Modelers will first explore the shapes of the cars before the designers start their sketches.

A Story Behind The Name Of Mazda
Ever wondered how a Japanese car company that Celebrates Driving got its name?
The name Mazda was introduced to Japan in October 1931. Mazda started its life as a cork manufacturer back in 1920. The year 1931 was when Mazda, then called the Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd., launched the Mazda-go, a tricycle truck which is a first vehicle coming out of the company. The naming of the tricycle was considered by Jujiro Matsuda, the second president and substantial founder of Toyo Kogyo, and other key members.
Made by a company that was then managed by a man named Matsuda, the name Mazda-go sounds fitting enough. The question is, how come it was spelt Mazda instead of Matsuda? Mazda comes from Ahura Mazda, the god of harmony, intelligence and wisdom from the earliest civilization in West Asia. Key members of Toyo Kogyo interpreted Mazda as a symbol of the beginning of the East and the West civilization, but also a symbol of the automotive civilization and culture. Striving to make a contribution to the world peace and to be a light in the automotive industry, Toyo Kogyo was renamed Mazda Motor Corporation. Mazda was also a perfect way to pay respect to the substantial founder, whose family name is pronounced very close to Mazda.

Our Take On Mazda Us Sales Figures
Despite a very positively-received range of mainstream cars and SUVs with a sporty bend Mazda has been struggling to break out of the 200-300k mark per year , though it finally managed that in 2014, 2015 and 2018 before dropping below 300k again in 2019.
The big reason for this fluctuating sales is because Mazdas mainstream models have failed to connect to the buyers in the US. For instance, the Mazda3 and the Mazda6, were both performing really well sales-wise but their sales dropped to 50% in 2019. We like to see Mazda to recover its loses in 2019 as their niche cars such as the MX-5 Miata and in the past the RX-8 still has a cult following in the US which makes sure that the brand will not continue dropping their sales for the next couple of years.
