Other items in the top 10 included overlooking a noise from the engine or wheels , a slow leak in a tire , an empty windshield fluid reservoir , or a broken headlight for a month or more.

The biggest factors were being too busy , being unable to afford it , thinking the problem was not urgent , the length of time the repair might take , anxiety around car-related issues , and distrust of mechanics .

Interestingly, anxiety and distrust of mechanics were slightly more of an issue for men than women:
