Dude, Where’s My Car? | #TBT Trailer | 20th Century FOX

Zanuck’s successor, producer , died a year later. President Spyros Skouras brought in a series of production executives, but none had Zanuck’s success. By the early 1960s, 20th Century-Fox was in trouble. A new version of began production in 1959 with in the lead. As a publicity gimmick, producer offered $1 million to if she would star she accepted and costs for Cleopatra began to escalate. ‘s on-set romance with Taylor was surrounding the media. However, Skouras’ selfish preferences and inexperienced micromanagement on the film’s production did nothing to speed up production on Cleopatra.

At the next board meeting, Zanuck spoke for eight hours, convincing directors that Skouras was mismanaging the company and that he was the only possible successor. Zanuck was installed as chairman, and then named his son as president. This new management group seized Cleopatra and rushed it to completion, shut down the studio, laid off the entire staff to save money, axed the long-running , and made a series of cheap, popular pictures that restored 20th Century-Fox as a major studio. The saving grace for the studio’s fortunes came from the tremendous success of , an expensive and handsomely produced film adaptation of the , which became a significant success at the box office and won five , including and .

It References Old Sci

As the teen movie is full of sci-fi-inspired subplots and wild tangents, one of the best comes in the final act. The hilariously named character Super Hot Giant Alien is seemingly based on the 1958 movie Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. Dude even replicates the iconic scene of the giant woman stepping over the highway.

The movie references dont end there either, as there is dialogue thats directly lifted from The Big Lebowski. As Jesse asks, Wheres your car dude? thats exactly what Walt asks the Dude when his car is stolen.

Ashton Kutcher And Sean William Scott Make A Great Comedy Duo

Both Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott had become famous among college kids in the late 90s. Kutcher played the slow but good-looking Kelso on That 70s Show, a sitcom about kids getting high in their parents basements, and Scott played Stifler, the prankster in American Pie.

In many ways, their characters in Dude are derivative of those, but they work together so well because Kutcher and Scott played off each other like they had known each other for years. Its easy to imagine that Stifler and Kelso would be best friends if they existed in the same universe, so Jesse and Chester likewise make a convincing pair. The actors also clearly understood exactly what kind of film they were making and perfectly played into the irrationality of it all.

Its A Stoner Movie That Has No Explicit References To Marijuana

Famous stoner movies such as Half Baked, How High, and even the Coen brothers cult classic The Big Lebowski are all focused on marijuana, or at least have a ton of references to it. However, there isnt a single overt reference to any drug in Dude, Wheres My Car? except for one shot of a dog hallucinating. It makes the film completely unique in the genre.

The movies avoidance of referencing drugs and trying to make the audience assume the main characters are high by showing that theyre craving food is fascinatingly strange. Its almost as if the filmmakers are preserving the innocence of the movie, yet there are still tons of sexual references, nudity, and violence in the film. Despite the absence of overt drug use, Dude, Wheres My Car? still deserves to be called one of the best stoner comedies of all time.

It Takes The Seinfeld Approach Of No Hugging No Learning

When he was the showrunner of Seinfeld, Larry David had the rule of no hugging, no learning, which meant that the episodes couldnt have any kind of social commentary or heartfelt moments.

When all the sci-fi elements are taken away from the movie, its a teen movie through and through. The only difference is that most teen movies still have some kind of a schmalzy ending, and even American Pie has some life lessons. Dude, Wheres My Car, on the other hand, takes the Seinfeld approach, and even when they propose to their girlfriends, its still hilariously void of any emotion.

    Story Reviewstoryline: Our Reviewers Take

Conventional cinematic wisdom would say that Dude, Wheres My Car? is dumb. Really, really dumb. But if a movie knows its dumb, how dumb can it really be? A fact, then, that renders Dude, Wheres My Car? virtually review-proof. Here is a film thats impossible to laugh at, because its so self-aware that it already beats you to the punch.

The plot : Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott star as Jesse Montgomery and Chester Greenburg, two perpetually-stoned party animals who make Bill & Ted look like Rhodes Scholars. After a particularly heavy night of drug-induced debauchery, the pair wake up dazed and confused and asking the burning question, Dude, wheres my car!? The clues are minimal just a matchbook cover from a strip club and some pudding in the fridge. So the boys go on a mission to reconstruct the evening and rescue their precious automobile. The journey that will ensue, however, will be far crazier than even they could have imagined, involving an angry street gang, a suitcase of stolen money, alien-seeking nerds, and even a gun-toting transsexual stripper.

None of this is to say that Dude, Wheres My Car? is a good movie. Its truly dumb, and a time-waster at best. But thanks to the energetic Scott and Kutcher , and a couple of amusing supporting turns , its a likable time-waster. I wish the film had tried to be even smarter and aimed just a little bit higher , but for what it is, it entertains.

It Does The Hangover Better Than The Hangover

The premise of Dude, Wheres My Car? is essentially laid out in the title. Jesse and Chester wake up in the morning to find their car missing after a long night of partying and drinking. What follows is the characters, who dont remember a thing, having to retrace their steps from the night before. Thats almost the exact premise of The Hangover, only instead of a car, its a person thats missing in that film.

While The Hangover is all about how the characters go to extremes with their bachelor parties and have an ironically unforgettable night, Dude, Wheres My Car outdoes it. And where the Wolf Pack had an unbelievable night partying with Mike Tyson and getting involved with gangsters, Jesse and Chester partied with aliens and got involved with cultists. But keeping itself grounded in reality, as opposed to the absurdist satire of Dude, Wheres My Car?, might be what helped The Hangover become one of the highest-grossing movies of the 2010s.

KUALA LUMPUR: A 57-year-old plumber has incurred more than 100 traffic summonses for a car he sold to a second-hand car dealer some 12 years ago.

The victim Kor Eng Chai thought that the ownership of the Proton Wira Aeroback had been transferred, but unfortunately, the dealer allegedly duped him.

“I purchased a new car through the dealer and traded in the Proton Wira on Oct 24, 2010.

“The dealer even wrote a guarantee letter promising to take full responsibility for the vehicle,” he told a press conference organised by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong at Wisma MCA on Friday .

However, Kor only discovered that the car ownership was still under his name when he received an insurance invoice on Jan 26, 2017.

“I lodged a police report at the Skudai police station in Johor on Feb 19, 2017,” he said.

In August this year, Kor’s plight worsened when he discovered that the same Proton Wira had more than 100 overdue summonses totalling RM7,440 from August 2018 until September 2020.

“It is disheartening to know that I sold the car for RM7,500 but the overdue summonses are almost worth almost that amount.

“I managed to contact the used car dealer initially and he promised to investigate. However, I did not manage to contact him again as he refused to answer my calls or reply to my texts,” he said.

Kor urged the new user of the car with the registration number JFG 9226 to come forward to sort out the matter.

    What Parents Need To Know

Dude, Where’s My Car? (2000) Trailer #1 | Movieclips Classic Trailers

Parents need to know that Dude, Where’s My Car is a 2000 “stoner comedy” in which Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott play slackers with no recollection of what they did the night before. The female characters are all either bubbleheads, strippers, or women who otherwise openly exploit their sexuality. Black and Asian characters are stereotypically depicted. A stripper is revealed to be a transsexual — is jokingly called a “gender-challenged male.” An old lady uses “f–k” in one scene. We also hear “bitch,” “f-g,” “pissed,” “crap,” and “damn.” While it’s not actually depicted, Jesse and Chester’s regular use of alcohol and drugs is a pivotal part of the plot. They also steal the pizzas they’re supposed to be delivering for their job. Jesse and Chester visit a strip bar where one of the girls talks about a lap dance they shared the previous night. Jesse gets to place his hand on a woman’s bosom, and there’s sexual innuendo throughout. Cartoonish beatings are delivered by a group of bad guys. Jesse and Chester bean their captors with a fire extinguisher. Attempts at physical humor center on visually impaired tweens playing T-ball.

    Is It Any Good

Dude, Where’s My Car is a sloppy, unappealing comedy that falls somewhere between Cheech & Chong and Bill & Ted. It’s a prime example of the kind of comedy that is marketed to teenagers even though it’s not appropriate for them. As concocted by filmmakers who come from TV shows like South Park and That ’70s Show, it’s as raunchy as possible without getting an R rating: Profanity is minimal, women are treated in an extremely sexist way , and drugs are a part of the plot .

The result is a movie that tacitly endorses substance abuse: The fact that Jesse and Chester were so “wasted” that they have no idea what they did the previous night is one that amuses rather than worries them. The roughly assembled script offers a few funny moments, but mostly the movie features ideas that might have been funny had they been developed a little, or at all. Dude isn’t as gross as some other comedies popular with young viewers, but that’s hardly a recommendation.
