Carshield Reviews From Customers

CarShield has received mixed customer service reviews, with positive reviews on some sites and some bad reviews on the Better Business Bureau . Weve shared both a positive and negative CarShield review below to provide a holistic view of the company.

CarShield Reviews Online

CarShield reviews are average compared to most third-party competitors. The extended warranty provider has a 4.0-star average rating out of 5.0 on Trustpilot, backed by more than 30,000 customer reviews. On Trustpilot, over 65% of reviewers rate CarShield as excellent. Over 10,000 reviews on Google give the company a rating of 4.2 stars.

CarShield has received over 3,000 complaints from customers over the past three years and currently has a 1.4-star rating out of 5.0 on the Better Business Bureau website. After giving the company an F rating, the BBB advises consumers to use caution when considering purchasing from CarShield because of a pattern of complaints about sales, advertising, denied CarShield claims and customer service practices.

When you consider the size of the company, many complaints are to be expected. CarShield says it has sold more than 500,000 plans over the past three years, so the number of complaints on the BBB website is pretty small compared to the number of CarShield reviews. While some of the biggest issues seem to be more about quotes than the service itself, we recommend doing your homework and carefully reading the fine print when considering CarShield.

How Much Does It Cost To Replace An Engine Splash Shield

Exhaust Heat Shield Repair Cost

The cost to replace the engine splash shield for the majority of the cars starts at around $60. The prices might be higher for SUVs or larger trucks, with the cost of the original manufacturer parts anywhere between $60 and $130.

Also, you have to consider the labor costs that are anywhere between $85 and $130 per hour, if you choose to go to a car service and have the engine splash shield replaced by a professional. Expect lower prices at a local independent shop and budget more for a dealership.

The prices are different across the country, but this job should not take more than an hour. So, the final price would include the labor costs for one hour and the cost of the parts.

The costs are also influenced by the make and model of the vehicle and the quality of the shield . In the table below you will find the average costs of replacing the engine shield for different types of cars.

Sample Vehicle Make & Model
Aftermarket $10 $35

It is important to mention that there are cars that have more than one engine splash shield installed. Some cars have only one engine shield placed in the center, while other cars have a passenger and driver side shield. Also, other cars have lower and upper shields. So, you must make sure you buy and replace the right one.

What Is The Average Cost Of A Carshield Warranty

A very basic, no frills CarShield plan costs between $99.99 and $129.99 per month. Your pricing will vary greatly depending on the age and mileage of your car, and other factors that are specific to you.

The prices below were obtained by phoning CarShields free quote line at 1-800-974-9385. The representative we spoke to quoted us that price for a 2017 model year vehicle with 60,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the contracts inception. Here is the list of vehicles we ran through with the representative:

Vehicle* Aluminum Deductible

The plan never expires as long as you continue to pay the monthly premium. The representative we spoke with told us that miles and years are unlimited.

Please note that CarShield does offer some discounts if you are a driver that falls into a specific category. These include:

  • Senior citizens
  • Original vehicle owner
  • Law enforcement employee

The representative declined to offer the discount amounts, but said that it is not uncommon for the totality of discounts to bring a monthly contract price down to $100 per month. So be sure to ask your representative for the full listing of available discounts available to you.

Should You Get A Carshield Extended Warranty Plan

Check our helpful infographic to help you decide if you need a vehicle service plan. There are two types of shoppers for whom a product like this is a good idea. The first is vehicle owners who can have their monthly budgets upset by a large and unplanned repair bill. The second case is a shopper who owns a vehicle they still love and wish to hang on to, but which has a poor track record of reliability. Our advice is to listen to CarSheild when they tell you that the Diamond Plan is the only one that makes sense. Paying a few dollars less per month for a plan that does not include the most common types of breakdowns seems like a way to be unhappy down the road.

Customer Reviews Of Carshield

The reviews for CarShield vary widely. So make certain you are doing your research and comparing customer experiences before making any decisions.

CarShield has a solid 4.5-star Google Reviews rating. One recent positive CarShield review from a Google Local Guide reads, I haven’t had to use it yet. That is a blessing itself, but when it comes time to use it I’m covered bumper to bumper and I think it’s a very good deal.

A second reviewer wrote, I am very happy with Car Shield. It was fast, accurate, professional all the way through.

On Yelp, we found that CarShield earns a 1.0-out-of-5 star rating. That is down a half-star from 2021. The newest five pages of reviews posted showed the lowest possible rating of 1 star.

Nightmare, scam, worst, beware, and other descriptive words of this type gave us pause.

We like to look to the Better Business Bureau for its rating of companies we research. What we found about CarShield was disturbing. Here is the note we found on the BBBs site warning consumers considering CarShield.

BBB advises consumers to use caution if considering doing business with CarShield, a vehicle service contract company. BBB received a pattern of consumer complaints alleging the company:

BBB has received 2,544 complaints about CarShield in the last 3 years. Half of those were in the last 12 months alone.

Can I Trust Carshield

The Other Side of the Shield: CarShield customers, repair shop complain ‘nothing is covered’

CarShield specializes in providing coverage that adds more value, coverage, and services than a traditional manufacturer warranty. Under the right conditions, you may be able to save on unexpected automotive repair costs that you would otherwise have to pay out of pocket or rely on a factory warranty alone.

When it comes to CarShield honoring the coverage contracts and paying for car repairs, we have found that many claims are denied. Customers blame false advertising, lack of disclosure and loopholes in the contract language to prevent payment of claims. Its worth noting that the contract does state that the extended warranty kicks in only if there is mechanical failure. Its difficult to know exactly what is defined as mechanical failure because circumstances vary from customer to customer. Ultimately, CarShield’s adjuster has the final say in what issues they deem qualified under their warranty. Since the language is vague, its imperative that you read through the contract to ensure it meets your needs before agreeing to the terms, or make adjustments/terminate within the cancellation window of 30 days.

Can I Cancel My Carshield Plan

Unlike most extended warranty plans, CarShield offers a pay-as-you-go plan. Since you have not paid in advance, you wont be receiving a refund of any kind. You can cancel any time you wish by no longer paying for the plan each month.

That said, we would suggest that before you sign up for CarShield, ask the agent you speak with to point out the cancelation policy in the contract you are being sent. It would also be wise to contact CarShields customer service department at 1-800-587-4162 and give them formal notice you are opting out.

Most Common Reasons Why Carshield Claims Are Rejected

CarShield lists 21 situations in which your plan would not cover you. They are listed in the contract under section D. Exclusions. Most of these are common sense. These include the following:

  • Common Reason 1: If your vehicle is covered under another warranty.
  • Common Reason 2: If it is damaged by volcanic eruption. No really, it says that
  • Common Reason 3: Failure to maintain the vehicle properly.
  • Common Reason 4: Making aftermarket performance modifications to the vehicle. If you put a chip in your Subaru WRX and the engine blows apart at 10,000 RPMs, dont expect CarShield to pony up the repair costs, Baby Driver.

For a full listing, check your contract very closely. You should be reading through all the fine print, before you sign anything.

How Carshield Extended Warranties Work

There are a few things to know about extended warranty plans from CarShield.

If you experience a breakdown, you can contact the roadside assistance provider outlined in your contract to get a tow to a repair shop. You can take your car to any shop authorized by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence . There are over 30,000 across the country.

Make sure the auto repair shop calls a CarShield claims representative for authorization before performing any repairs. The only case when you can authorize a repair is when it’s an emergency after-hours. You’d have to foot the bill and have CarShield reimburse you in that situation.

If CarShield authorizes the repair, you’ll just pay the deductible to the shop. You can also get reimbursed up to $40 per day for a rental car if the shop needs to do more than four hours of work.

CarShield plans dont cover everything. Exclusions common to CarShield contracts are:

  • Repairs performed without prior authorization from the contract administrator
  • Damage caused by a lack of maintenance
  • Damage caused by acts of nature, theft, vandalism, or falling objects
  • Modifications to the vehicle
  • Misuses such as racing or off-road driving
  • Tampering with the odometer
  • Pre-existing mechanical issues

All these exclusions are common for factory warranties and third-party providers.
