Engines for the G80 saloon in the UK are expected to be a 2.5 litre 4-cylinder 304 horse-power single turbo petrol and a frugal 2.2 litre 4-cylinder diesel. Both will be linked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

What Cars Will Genesis Sell Anything Electric

But back to the new Genesis, and its core line-up will be large saloons and SUVs well-established body styles in the premium car world.

It will launch this summer with the G80 saloon, pictured at top, and GV80 SUV, with the slightly smaller G70 saloon and GV70 SUV set to follow soon after.

A G70 Shooting Brake will also be launched, which is a model thats been designed and tuned specifically for European customers.

The firm has also said that three electric models will be introduced in the brands first year in Europe.

The golf legends Tuesday car crash has shone a spotlight on the fledgling luxury auto brand as it tries to raise its profile.

Genesis has rolled out five high-end models since parent company Hyundai launched it five years ago including the GV80 SUV that Woods rolled over on an accident-prone road in suburban Los Angeles.

The unexpected attention could give the brand a much-needed boost at a time when its struggling with lagging sales, auto analysts tell The Post.

I hate to use the no such thing as bad publicity, but therell be that much more awareness of Genesis than there was a week ago, said Karl Brauer, executive analyst at car-shopping website iSeeCars.com. Any bad news can be devastating for 24 hours or 48 hours but the increased awareness of Genesis will last a lot longer than that.

Genesis was just a high-end model in Hyundais lineup before the South Korean car giant spun it out as a standalone brand in 2015.

The move was meant to help Hyundai compete with upscale labels from other Asian automakers, such as Toyotas Lexus and Hondas Acura, as well as luxury stalwarts like Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW, analysts said.

Genesis and its vehicles have won several industry accolades in the years since, including four consecutive No. 1 rankings among premium brands in JD Powers Initial Quality Study.

Hyundai Motor Company began developing flexible-fuel vehicles in 1988. The test vehicle was 1991 MY Scoupe FFV. Since March 1992, in Seoul, Korea, through at least November 1993, field trials of several FFVs had been performed over more than 30,000 miles.

The new hybrid-electric FGV-1 was unveiled at the Seoul Motor Show in 1995 which featured full-time electric drive technology. The 1995 FGV-1 was the result of Hyundai’s first experiments with hybrid propulsion systems in 1994. The FGV-2 was the second vehicle to be produced. The company is using the “parallel” type design, which utilizes either the internal combustion engine or the electric motor. Others are the Elantra HEV and the Hyundai Accent HEV, which were unveiled in 1999 and 2000, respectively.

The first pure electric car developed by Hyundai was the Sonata Electric Vehicle in 1991. The car started as a Sonata sedan-based model. Hyundai planned to have six electric vehicles available for testing by the end of 1992.

As of March 2014, cumulative global sales of hybrid models totaled 200,000 units, including both Hyundai Motors and Kia Motors hybrid models.
