Your vehicle registration may be renewed online 90 days before the expiration date or after the expiration date, if you have not received a citation for expired registration. Your expiration month will not change.

Vehicle Has A Registration Certificate
The seller can register the vehicle to you online or by post.
The seller must follow a different process if youre buying a vehicle to take abroad including the Channel Islands , Isle of Man or Ireland. They must give you the full log book and not send it to DVLA.
Register online
- fill in the green new keeper slip and give it to you
- destroy the V5C
DVLA will update the vehicle record immediately and they will aim to send out a new V5C to you within 3 to 5 days.
Register by post
If you cannot register the vehicle online, you can register it by post. The seller will need to:
- complete section 2 if they have a new style log book or section 6 if they have the older style log book
- sign the declaration in section 8 if they have the older style log book
- fill in the new keeper slip and give it to you
- send the V5C to DVLA
DVLA aims to send out a new V5C to you as soon as possible, usually 4 weeks after getting the old V5C from the seller.
If you do not get it after 4 weeks:
- complete form V62 – Application for a vehicle registration certificate
- send it to DVLA with the new keeper slip given to you by the seller – if you do not send in the new keeper slip, youll have to pay a fee
or get it from any Post Office branch.
Contact DVLA if you do not receive anything 4 weeks after sending in form V62.
If you have not received your log book after 6 weeks and you have not notified DVLA, youll have to pay £25 to get a replacement.

The registration fee for passenger vehicles is based on the weight and model year of the vehicle. Registration fees range from $27.00 to $62.00 for a one year registration or $54.00 to $124.00 for a two year registration.

Apply For A Common Due Date
If you have 5 or more vehicle registrations or 2 or more heavy vehicle registrations with the same Transport and Main Roads Customer Reference Number you can apply to have a common due date so all your registrations expire on the same day. You can’t have a common due date with a 1, 3 or 6-month pay term, or if your registrations are renewed through direct debit. Common due dates can’t be applied to boats.
You can have more than 1 common due date but you must have at least 5 or more vehicle registrations or 2 or more heavy vehicle registrations for each common due date at all times, otherwise the common due date will automatically expire on your CRN.

Kansas vehicle registration fees are based on vehicle type and weight. These are base registration fees. If you allow your KS car registration to expire while deployed in a war zone, the Kansas Department of Revenue will grant you, upon returning, a grace period of 7 days to drive with expired Kansas plates. To be awarded this waiver, carry while driving:

A Duplicate Copy of a registration is available when a current registration has been misplaced, lost or has been destroyed.
Please complete a Copy of a Registration form. The fee for this transaction is $15.00 per registration and can be completed at any DMV office.
Certified Copy of a Registration
Certified copies of registrations are available for the following purposes:
- Needed for a court case or police investigation.
- If you move out-of-state, and the new state requires a certified copy of a registration.
- If you have sold your vehicle to an out-of-state resident and the vehicle is title exempt.
Please complete a Request for Motor Vehicle Records form. The fee for this transaction is $15.00 per registration and can only be done at the Concord DMV office. Please allow extra time to process as these transactions involve research and are not something readily available at the counter level.

You may change your plate type at any point during the year. A completed Application for Replacement Plates and Decals is required, and you will be required to pay the plate fees , the new registration fee , plus any other applicable fees for the plate type requested.

Registering A New Or Used Motor Vehicle
When you buy a new or used vehicle from a motor dealer, generally they will arrange registration and compulsory third party insurance for you. You will need to provide evidence of identity such as your current driver licence. If you are eligible for a registration concession make sure you let the dealer know and provide proof to enable the dealer to include the concession. You can’t have a concession on 2 vehicles at the same time for some concession types.
If a motor dealer has not arranged registration of your vehicle, or if you buy a vehicle privately, the new registration must be done at a transport and motoring service centre. If you live in a rural area you can visit a QGAP office, Magistrates Court or local police station that provides vehicle registration servicesâplease call to confirm before visiting.
If you have not already done so, check that the vehicle is unencumbered by searching on the Personal Property Securities Register website.
