Chevrolet Spark: Cheapest Price

With an MSRP of $14,595 including destination, the 2022 Spark remains the cheapest car you can buy in the United States. Sadly, that only gets you an entry-level model with a manual transmission. Configured with a CVT transmission, the MSRP increases to $15,695 before factoring in any dealer discounts or incentives.

When the Chevy Sonic was discontinued, the jump in price to the next car in the lineup increased significantly. For reference, 2022 Malibu pricing starts at $24,395, a difference of $9,800 compared to the cheapest Spark. Alternatively, you may want to consider a 2022 Chevrolet Trax crossover, which starts at $22,595.

This spring, inventory data indicated that the Chevy Spark was virtually sold-out, so you may want to consider one of the affordable cars below if you’re focused on a model with the lowest price. As we reported previously, the Chevy Spark will be discontinued this summer and production is due to end soon.

The cheapest new car sold in the U.S. is nearly $13,000 cheaper than the average price of a used car.

Last summer, the average price for a new car hit $40,000. By December, that number had inflated to a bank-account-rattling $47,077. A perfect storm of supply shortages and pandemic-related disruptions left the industry reeling and sent prices soaring. With fewer cars to sell and no shortage of people wanting to buy them, dealerships stopped offering discounts and instead slapped on fat “market adjustment” fees or markups taller than a Ram 1500 TRX. Everything from the Nissan Frontier pickup to the Porsche Macan felt similar effects as their MSRP base prices saw a significant increase. At that point, the cost of the Versa is just over $2,000 more expensive than the Spark. However, the Versa does have a major advantage by offering standard automatic emergency braking , lane-departure warning, and 10 airbags, even on the cheapest trim. This could make the Versa a better overall value.

Looking to lease? You may want to step up to the Nissan Sentra. That’s because the Versa tends to lack the same level of incentives and can often end up costing a similar amount to lease. At $27,750, the Ford Maverick front-drive hybrid is the most affordable pickup sold in Canada. If you want all-wheel-drive, it means ditching the hybrid powertrain and going with the 2.0L turbo-four. This adds $1,600 and increases the annual fuel cost from $1,260 to $1,920. Maverick is also different in that it rides on unibody rather than the body-on-frame format favoured by the Ranger and F 150. The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series is neither cheap to buy nor run, but the badge lets everyone know youre willing to pay for it.

What can one say about the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser? Its a vehicle that serves dual purposes. Its a part-time off-roader and a full-time school-run status symbol. Its also the darling of the Australian highways, tugging boats and caravans for miles in quiet dignity.

Last year, Toyota delivered the brand-new 300 Series to market to relieve its much-adored predecessor after 13 years in production. While the 200 Series didnt catch on in the United States, it remained in high demand in markets like Australia and the Middle East right up until its demise. For those of you who want the dependability and warranty a new car can provide, but need something super affordable, I’ve compiled the top 100 most affordable new cars available right now, broken down by trim level.

If you intend to keep your new vehicle for a long time , than one of these options may make sense for you. However, if you like to trade cars often, or want a lot of bang for your buck, you should be considering a 3-5 year old used car instead.

Unlike other sources, I sort my list by Average Selling Price, not MSRP, because this is more accurate, plus it factors in the different discounts or premiums you will pay for different models. Most other sources list these vehicles incorrectly because they focus on MSRP, not REAL prices you can expect to pay.

Also note that the cheapest cars are generally those with Manual transmissions. Most people don’t want these, and they’re usually hard to find in stock anyway. I highlighted the ones with Manual transmission in red color.
