Kill The Algae And Mould

Exterior Car Detailing Like A Pro! Car Cleaning

Now this is a very important step that you shouldnt neglect.

Just because the algae and mould has been visibly removed, doesnt mean that it isnt still there.

Unless you full decontaminate the area, its very likely that the mould and algae will reappear quite soon after this process. So you need to tackle this invisible contamination.

So how do you do it?

There are a few methods that you can try.

  • An anti-microbial all-purpose-cleaner
  • Vinegar
  • Salty water

The best method is using an anti-microbial all-purpose-cleaner. I say antimicrobial and not antibacterial, because mould isnt a bacteria. Algae isnt actually a microbe but most antimicrobial cleaners will kill the algae as well.

Simple spray it on the area, leave it to sit for 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Never use it in direct sunlight or high temperatures and dont let it dry on the surface.

Using an APC specifically designed for exterior use on cars is the safest option to kill any remaining algae or mould. Otherwise, using household cleaners may be too powerful and risk damaging the paint.

Another great option is to use a 50% mixture of IPA. This will kill the algae and mould effectively and is safe to use on both the paint and rubber. Spray it on and wipe the area, then rinse immediately. Do not let the IPA sit on the surface or it can cause it to dry out, fade and crack.

Never use bleach or household cleaners on your car.

S For Washing Your Car

  • Park the vehicle in the the shade. Do not wash in direct sunlight. Heat speeds up the drying process, which creates a risk for water spots. This will also help keep the cleaning solution from drying on the cars surface before you have time to rinse it off.
  • Rinse the car to remove loose dirt. The first step in the washing of your car is a pre-rinse to remove any dirt that may be laying on the cars surface. This will save you time in the long-run.
  • Use two buckets, one for the cleaning solution and the other for clean water. The purpose of using two buckets is so that you can rinse out and remove dirt from your washing mitt or sponge before filling it with soap again. Do not use dish detergents or hand soap, as these are not made specifically for use on car paint. Grit guards can be inserted into the bottom of each bucket to help keep clean water at the top and dirt at the bottom.
  • Start at the top, and work your way down. The dirtiest parts of the car are typically those found towards the bottom. If you work bottom to top, you would be moving that dirt and grime onto your cars surface. Do not move the sponge or mitt in circles, but wash in lines, instead.
  • Rinse, and dry the car. Rinse frequently, if working in hot weather, to avoid water spots. Use microfiber towels to dry the surface of the vehicle. Do not forget to wipe down door jambs, as well as trunk and hood jambs. Once one towel is saturated, grab another.
  • What Is The Best Way To Use A Car Exterior Cleaner

In this article, you will learn:

    • How to perform a quick touchup with a waterless car wash
    • The quickest way to perform a complete car wash at home
    • The professional detailer’s way to wash your car

Very few things are both the best and the quickest. Sports cars, jets, Olympic sprinters – those are usually the best because they’re the quickest. But, when it comes to performing a job, the best results are almost never the quickest to achieve.

This is definitely the case when it comes to washing your car. If your car is really dirty, you can’t rush through the wash and expect a beautiful outcome. Even worse, taking shortcuts with a car exterior cleaner can scratch the clear coat, making your car look worse, not better, in the long run.

The good news is most cars don’t require a complete detailing very frequently. You may be able do a quick once-over with a waterless car wash product in five minutes. Or, if your car or truck is only moderately soiled, you can likely get it sparkling clean in 15 minutes. But, if your car has significant dirt and grime or if you’re washing it as part of a complete car detailing, you’ll need to set aside some time, maybe 30 to 45 minutes, to wash your car and remove tough stains from bugs, tar and tree sap.

Magic Eraser On The Exterior Windshield

How to Clean a Car’s Exterior

A magic eraser can come in handy if your windshield is heavily covered with dust or stains. In the case of tough stains or gunk, it really works like magic.

The chemical composition of the Magic eraser is a little bit abrasive, but it does not scratch your windshield. But if your windshield is tinted, then be careful as it might damage the tint.

Mix the magic eraser with water before using it on your glass. Then lightly wipe the glass surface on the dirt so that the built-up dirt can break off and your windshield can be clean. After wiping away the dirt, clean the window with a damp cloth so that there is no remaining chemical on the glass.

As a magic eraser contains quite strong chemicals, washing off all the chemicals is very important after the cleaning. Also, dont apply too much pressure while rubbing the spots. Else it might be harmful to your glass.
