Subaru New Cars for 2020: What You Need to Know ...

We think the Premium model packs the best balance of desirable features and overall value. Every model has all four wheels spun via the same plucky turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain, but the base Ascent and the Premium have slightly better EPA fuel-economy ratings than the top two trims. Compared with the base model, the Premium gets standard upgrades that include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. Those who want to ditch the second-row bench seat for a pair of captain’s chairs will need the 7-Passenger Convenience package, which isn’t offered on the bottom-rung Ascent. We’d choose that option on our Subie, since it also adds hands-free passive entry, a power-operated rear gate, and rear automated emergency braking.

Where Are Subaru Cars Made

Toyota owns 20% of the company and is the largest single shareholder. Subaru gains access to steel and other raw materials produced through the Toyota supplier network as part of this arrangement.

While Toyota maintains dozens of factories throughout the world, Subaru has only two manufacturing plants, making it a smaller vehicle producer than some of the major players. The original plant is located in Gunma, Japan, and the other is in Lafayette, Indiana.

Subaru announced plans to expand the factory and underwent a $400 million expansion in 2017. In 2019, the Indiana plant celebrated a major milestone when it produced its four millionth vehicle.

Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. is a subsidiary of Subaru Corporation and the home of North American Subaru production. SIA invested $140.2 million in new machinery and equipment and made improvements to increase its production capacity by nearly 100,000 units annually to meet the growing demand for Subaru vehicles in North America.

Where Are Subarus Made

So, the big question: where are Subarus made? Well, Subaru now has a total of five manufacturing facilities, four of which are located in Japan. While the other one is located in Lafayette, Indiana. Because of the high demand for Subarus in the United States, Subaru started a joint-venture with Isuzu motors. The plant officially began making Subaru Legacy on September 11, 1989. The factory now has a little over 6,000 employees and has since made 4 million Subarus. The factory currently makes the Impreza, the Legacy, the Outback, and the Ascent models for the Northern American market.

Meanwhile, Subarus factories in Japan are located in ta, Gunma Prefecture, consisting of four locations. The Subaru-ch factory is where they build the Subaru BRZ. Then theres the Yajima plant where all other current Subaru cars are being built. Meanwhile, the Otakita plant builds the Subaru kei trucks . While the Oizumi plant handles the engines and transmission.

So, the next time someone asks you where Subarus are made, you can tell them that they are made at two locations. There are four factories in Japan and another one in Indiana for the Northern American market.

Are Repairs Of A Subaru Expensive

Launch Control: Climb to the Clouds at Mt. Washington â Episode 5.07

The answer depends on who you ask and what the repair is. As with any automaker, there are issues that happen with vehicles. Since Subaru is a subsidiary of the auto division of Fuji Heavy Industries of Japan, it is technically considered a foreign car. This may present an issue to many mechanics who may need additional time for a part to ship to his or her shop, when a Subaru needs to be repaired. Subarus do have known issues with their All-Wheel-Drive. There are a huge number of problems with Subaru engines-that are commonly prone to failure of the head gasket failure. The catalytic converters are also known to be more expensive to replace as well.

Where Is Subaru From

The company we know today as Subaru was incorporated as Fuji Heavy Industries on July 15, 1953, in Tokyo, Japan, and still has its headquarters there today. FHI was the result of five Japanese industrial companies joining together to form one large company. FHI would focus its efforts on the manufacture of transportation-related items like scooters, cars, buses and more.

Shortly after FHI was incorporated, the company launched its automotive sub-brand Subaru, which was named after the Japanese word for the Pleiades star cluster. Its first car was the Subaru 1500, but only 20 were built due to supply issues.

Subaru of America, the Japanese companys official American subsidiary, was established in 1968. The first Subaru vehicle sold in America was the Subaru 360, a lightweight two-door city car with a rear-mounted air-cooled engine.

Why Are Subarus So Popular

Subaru’s success is based on smart marketing, gathering left-of-center customers and getting the timing right for the widespread popularity of small crossovers. “Part of Subaru’s success is that they’ve done well with the small crossover category,” said Jessica Caldwell, a senior analyst at Edmunds.

Is Toyota Or Subaru More Reliable

Subaru also gets high mileage, with many models lasting around 200,000 miles. … Subaru has also beaten its Toyota rivals on several occasions, including the beloved Toyota RAV4. Consumer Reports said the Subaru Forester is more reliable, has a better ride quality, and has the most comfortable interior.

Interior Comfort And Cargo

The Ascent’s interior has all the hallmarks of a large crossover, with a raised driving position and versatile seating configurations. While the cabin accommodates a crowd, its third-row passenger space trails bigger alternatives such as the Volkswagen Atlas. Too bad only the top two models are available with desirable features such as heated rear seats, a memory driver’s seat, power-adjustable passenger seat, and leather-trimmed upholstery. The Ascent can pack up to eight people inside, but in our testing it only held five carry-on bags behind the third row. While that was one less than we fit in the Traverse, the Subaru also had less interior cubby storage than most rivals. Still, it remains a capable travel companion with some clever cargo solutions. These include Velcro straps in the cargo area to hold up the load floor if you need the added room. Our test vehicle had the optional second-row captain’s chairs that use multiple levers for adjustments and will fold nearly flat.

Are Subaru Repair Costs Expensive

The answer to this depends on who you ask and what you are repairing. We did a quick search and it seems that the cost of the parts for Subaru isnt very different from other carmakers such as Toyota. For example, a catalytic converter costs around $850 for a 2015 Subaru Forester, which about the same as a Toyota RAV4. In fact, some RAV4 model trims will require you to pay up to $1,500 for the catalytic converter, and thats not including labor.

However, some reports say that Subarus are slightly more expensive to maintain. Consumer Reports say that the average maintenance cost for a 5-year old Subaru is around $200. This is about the same as most other Japanese carmakers. But 10 years down the line, then your Subaru will cost an average of $458 to maintain. This is slightly higher than other Japanese carmakers since Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, and even Honda averages under $400.

While the cost of the parts is relatively similar, we can assume that the average cost is higher because they become less reliable after five years. Additionally, the boxer engine that they use makes engine service more difficult. This means your mechanic will take longer to finish a job, and you will have to pay more for labor.

Breaking: Subaru Stops All American Production

That means 15,000 vehicles won’t be built this month.

Another automaker has succumbed to the ongoing semiconductor chip shortage crisis. A Subaru of American spokesperson has confirmed to Reuters it is suspending production at its Lafayette, Indiana factory starting now until the end of the month. No precise date was given for when the factory will come back online.

But unlike other automakers who have multiple facilities scattered throughout the country and the world, such as General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, Subaru only has two factories, in Japan and Indiana. The former, for now, is still up and running. The Indiana plant’s shutdown means around 15,000 vehicles won’t be produced. The Subaru Outback, Legacy, Ascent, and Impreza are all built there. The Forester, Crosstrek, and BRZ are made in Japan.

Why Subaru Is Not Popular

One of the core reasons that Subaru reliability has dropped is due to the problems that the Outback and Legacy have had with in-car technology. This is a common reason for declining dependability in a number of makes and models since the early 2000s. Many cars today have a great deal of new and complex technology.
